Cleaning dome

Okay stupid question. I did search for half an hour before posting this. We have a hurricane headed for the coast of S.C. I am about 3 hours away but even thos far inland it can get bad with power outages. So I charged all my batteries and checked all my lights. I noticed the dome on a Utilitech I seldome use needs some cleaning. Not really sure what is safe to use. Most of mine are so well maintained. Stupid question so my apologies.

Thanks for any help.

Your tongue.
And (or) rinse with IPA.

It is fine like that but if you want to clean it use what ever you have to clean it. Even a tiny bit of water on a soft cloth and dab clean the dome just do not use to much force!

I was pretty sure just a moist swab would be fine just wanted to double check, also noticed that wire. I will tack as well. It was cheap but is tough as nails,

I think I will pass on the tongue. Use to clean halogen with IPA. To be honest I did not know it would be okay on the dome, thanks..

I can understand that, but it’s soft and moist and does take off bits that are kind of stuck on it.
A cotton swab may damage the dome surface and or leave cotton fibres.

Alcohol does no harm to domes, unlike pertoleum based liquids.

It took off the worst of it. I am about to tin a new adjustable temp. iron. I have a tip just about the right size to get that wire that I had not noticed.

Thanks again.

As I posted in the other thread, I use isopropyl alcohol, 90+%, and microfiber cloths - can get them fairly cheap. The microfiber stuff does it clean - no tiny threads, filaments or anything. I've cleaned up many-a-dirty LED's this way, and usually touch up new mods the same way even if I can't notice anything obvious.

Hmmmm… coincidental?
