I know it’s not really budget, but I just discovered this brand and it looks impressive. They are US made and supposedly are better and more durable than Surefire. I ordered two to test them out. Any one have any? Any thoughts?
They’re okay. Some of their designs are … dubious. like… the OWL?… I think the Rein is also a HUGE weapon light.
They came out with a smaller REIN, called the 2.0. I don’t know, just been on a kick here recently on finding real tough lights. Been looking into Malkoff and Elzetta as well.
I assume you already know about Modlite. Their light heads are pretty darn good.
I’ve been debating a Modlite head on an Arisaka (surefire) body or just getting a Streamlight kit. I’ll probably get a Streamlight kit first just to have a less expensive option to play with and see what I think.
I have a Cloud Defensive Rein, Modlite PLHv2, OKW, Surefire M640 (dual fuel), Malkoff E2SHT, E2Xt, etc…
The Rein is a great light, but huge and heavy. The Rein 2.0 looks slightly smaller with a higher Cd rating and cooler color temp.
The Malkoff heads are outpaced IMO, but dual fuel capable (most of them).
The Modlite PLHv2 is the best out there right now for LE use. Cuts through window tint well enough. OKW is slightly more throwy, but with about 1/2 or 1/3 the lumens.
Surefire just announced the revamp of the Turbo series however, with dual fuel support (including 1x123 for the 300 series), 70,000 Cd and like 1,300 lumens. Has my interest.
FWIW, everyone has been pestering Modlite to make a Dual Fuel PLHv2 (like they do the OKW), but instead they just announced E-series compatible Dual Fuel heads in similar outputs to existing PLHv2 and OKW. Since both Surefire and Cloud are both coming out with 70,000 Cd 1,300+ lumen lights, my guess is there is a new LED in play and Modlite is working on a Dual Fuel head based on that chip. Just my speculation, though.
Here’s the thing. If money isn’t an issue, Modlite and Surefire are great. However, for half the price or more, Olight and now Acebeam (Cyansky and probably Wuben will be following suit…possibly Imalent) have good WML choices in the P15 and Odin (either the regular or Mini). Both are reliable and come with Mlok mountings systems and have options for pic rails. I have all 3 and like them a lot.
No way I’m putting Olight anything on my weapons and frankly, they can just go out of business.
I don’t think Olight or them other brands are potted like surelight or Cloud. Doesn’t potted make all the difference?
I’ve got a Rein and the user interface is the best i have used so far. On a WML light, it’s the whole system, not just the light unit.
The light itself has so much punch through other light sources. You can mount it tight against the weapon as the button layout is great. Along with the built in redundancy and it’s proven durability the torch in this case is measured by more than just its output.
