Obvious newb here and I hate bothering people for help when I should be able to figure it out, I am an electrician, work on generator controls etc so I consider myself very mechanically inclined but seem to have a problem figuring out even basically disassembly without asking for help
Anyway, I have a coast px45 that I messed around with awhile back because it no longer worked, I believe thereally were Springs and brass contact pointsomeone in the tail cap at one point
Ime assuming it shouldn’t be to difficult to get rid of the aaa battery pack and convert it to a single 18650?
From the limited knowledge I’ve learned thus far I could direct drive the led with a single cell?
I also cannot figure out how to disassemble the light beyond removing the tail cap
I don’t need any mode besides full output
I’m trying to learn on a bunch of butchered lights I already have before attempting to mod a surefire m3 combat light that’s and a 6p that are both incandescent
Assuming you still have this light and want to disassemble it further, here is a little more info. The endcap can separate into 5+ pieces. On my endcap, there are 3 buttons sticking out of the black part. I used my fingers to twist off the black plastic piece using the 2 farthest buttons as leverage.
From the picture it looks like yours might be broken. I would stick the 2 ends of pliers into the space where the 2 farthest buttons were and twist it off. You see those 2 tiny holes in the black end? You can also stick 2 paperclips into those holes and try to twist it off as well.
I honestly think the led side of the flashlight is not serviceable. To get to the led I need to use a special tool to grab the led from the inside and pull it out through the barrel.
I think I know what the problem is with my led light. The 3 buttons isn’t making good contact with the circuit board behind the black part. Unfortunately the pads are corroded. I could solder on a new pad and hopefully that will make good contact but that project is for another day.
For your project, a 18650 battery looks interesting.
