Coast XP40R lens replacement

I have a coast, XP40 rechargeable and it has a max output of 8000 lumens. It has a fairly big COBLED in it. I want to get the lens apart because I ended up cracking the plastic lens from too much heat in front of it. I want to replace it with a glass one, but I don’t know how to get The lens apart. I assume it’s helped together with some sort of Loctite or sealant but I also don’t want to clamp it with pliers and scratch the hell out of it.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to get these things open without damaging? I really want to see how well it does with the lens that could focus the beam a little nicer. Right now if I get dark paper close enough, it can smoke it, but it won’t catch on fire.

Zoomies like this are going to be very tough to open, and are not designed for user-serviceability–they’d like you to buy a new one when this breaks. If the crack is not severe enough to mess with the beam, I’d leave it as is. If there’s a large crack, maybe one could get some 2-part resin in there to fill it up.

If the light already starts off with a COB LED, there’s no focusing the beam a bit nicer. A COB has very low intensity and poor surface uniformity, the beam will always be ugly unless you slap some diffusion film (think window film) in front to homogenize. For catching on fire, it would be very difficult due to the low intensity of the emitter and conservation of etendue. Same reason why you can’t get a large magnifying glass to start fire with moonlight. Use very dark paper and make sure the paper is thermally insulated (e.g., no wind to whisk the heat away).

The plan is to replace the lens with different type of focal lengths. This is hot enough to smoke paper up close and I’m trying to get a focal point that hopefully will start a fire. It’s just a project. I’m wondering if there is a glue solvent that is safe for the black finish that I can use.
