Three new lights in the last few weeks.
FandyFire UV-S5 arrived today. (SRK copy)
Nitecore EA4 XM-L2 from last week.
Black Shadow Terminator XM-L U3 before that.
All fall into the short/stubby shape class.
All are very bright.
All are geared to be flood type lights.
I’m liking all three.
Quite a difference in quality and price.
All three give out all the light I will likely ever need at reasonable distances.
All cover a somewhat similar purpose, just at a different size and brightness.
The Terminator is about as much brighter than the FF as to what the FF is to the EA4.
Again, all three are extreamly bright. Maybe a little more difference between FF and the EA4 than the BS and the FF.
The one thing I have really noticed about the FF is how hot it gets so quickly. This in my opinion really cuts back on the usefulness of the FF.
The quality of the BS seems the best followed by the EA4 and then the FF lagging a ways behind.
Now that I own all three, the one I would consider buying another so I would have 2 is the EA4. I will probably buy at least one more. I may buy another Terminator but I have no interest at this time in another FF or SRK. I’ll play with them a little more tonight.
I went into the bathroom and shut the door for complete darkness. A naked eye ceiling bounce test results were somewhat surprising. I could only notice a very slight difference the BS and the FF. They were very close. The EA4 was quite a ways behind.
The way i dd it is a bit fiddly ,Remove tailcap.Using 4 small washers on the - of each battery .then place a larger washer on top of the 4small ones .negative probe to lge washer pos probe to body, then get someone to switch on.
Some more impressions. The FF really excels as a tailstand light to light up a room. Very little difference between it and the Terminator. Too bad it heats up so quickly making it less useful for this.
Outside is where you really notice the difference between the Terminator and the FF. FF does just a little more flood but isn’t close to the Terminaton in throw.
I am very impressed with the EA4. Decent throw and plenty of spill. About half the size and weight of the other two. Very nice light.
I have a Jetbeam PA40 which uses 4AA batteries. 468 lumins and a nice light. It has been one of my favorite lights. Other than it having a very low low mode, the EA4 kills it in every other way. Funny how all of a sudden I don’t see myself using the PA40 anymore when just a week ago it was one of my favorite first go to lights for small and medium chores.
