Compatibility issue: Xtar VX2 Pro vs Soshine 1.5V Li-ion AA (3900 mWh, black)

Hi everyone,

I’ve run into a specific issue when trying to charge Soshine 1.5V Li-ion AA 3900 mWh batteries (the black version with built-in protection/step-down converter) using the Xtar VX2 Pro charger.

The Problem: The Xtar VX2 Pro refuses to charge them. It seems that during the initial polling/detection phase, the charger’s startup pulse triggers the battery’s built-in protection board (BMS). This causes the battery to momentarily trip and “disappear” from the slot. A second later, the protection resets, the Xtar detects a “new” battery again, tries to initialize/detect the chemistry, and gets stuck in an infinite detection loop (endless reconnecting).

However: On the original Soshine Chocolate charger (the updated version with the Type-C port), these exact same batteries charge completely fine without any issues.

Has anyone else experienced this controller conflict between the Xtar VX2 Pro and Soshine 1.5V Li-ion AAs? Is there any workaround, or is this a fundamental hardware incompatibility between Xtar’s detection algorithm and Soshine’s BMS?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

WB, Michael-Krivoshey!

I experienced a similar problem, too. It detects the 18650 battery as LiFePO4 and stops charging at 3.8V. I believe there are issues with the XTAR VX2 Pro charger.

It shouldn’t switch automatically to the LiFePO mode. You need to long press the C/V button to switch between Li-ion and LiFePO mode. The selected mode is saved even when disconnecting the power.

You are absolutely right, thanks.
