Convoy C8 - Build

Hey everyone!

I finally received my Convoy C8 from Fasttech yesterday… (ordered 11.22.2015).
I like it so far, except the Beam Profile, its not a 100% clear.

I would like to use the C8 for my first modding experience. What build can you guys recommend me? Any advice on how to do several things?

Thanks in advance!
Pascal

use the search feature on here, there are loads of builds around the C8.
ideas that come to mind…

different emitter (xpg2 maybe?), modding the existing emitter (dedome, shave, …), different tint,…
new driver (fet? fet+1? )
new reflector if you don’t like the beam profile? OP maybe?

The search feature over here is pretty bad to be honest. I cant search in a specific category and would have to check alot of threads.

Is there any possibility to reach over 60k LUX without de-doming the LED, if I dont want a dragster or overheating?

Whats a “OP Reflector”?

And where can I get all that stuff? (Im from Germany)

Hello Pascal

I’m pleased I’m not a German! That is a long wait.

The first thing you could do would be to add some 7135’s to increase the current and therefore the brightness, or replace the driver altogether, spring bypass with some copper braid, thicker wires from the driver to the led.

The smooth lens is good for throw, as has already been mentioned, some dedome the led to increase the throw.

Also, I’m not sure if the led emitter sits on an aluminium star or copper, a copper one would cool it better.

OP is for “Orange Peel” it has a texture and tends to smooth out the beam pattern.

Usually I dont have to wait that long for stuff to arrive. Maybe Singapore Post is just bad.

I was thinking about a driver and emitter change, unfortunately I have no clue what kind of will work properly.

How does a spring by-pass work? 2 wires from the positive contact (spring) to the emitter?

Does a OP Reflector have any negative effect on the output/throw?

all the usual shops send to Germany and with a few exceptions the wait shouldn’t be too long.

I suggest intl outdoor, banggood, fasttech, gearbest (use tracking/insurance when shipping valuable goods)

fasttech is typically among the faster ones, on average below 20 days. banggood to Germany (tried over Christmas) averaged 19-25 days for me.

Dont forget mtnelectronics and 3tronics.

The aim is just to reduce the resistance in the circuit to increase the current flow to the emitter.

Most of the springs are plated steel, copper has a lower resistance but doesn’t work very well as a spring.

Copper braid is soldered from the solder at the bottom of the spring to the top of the spring. The resistance of the copper braiding is lower than that of the spring which allows a little more current to flow.

Some take the braid through the board directly to the switch, silicone wire instead of copper braid is also used.

A de-domed XPG2 and a SMO reflector with make it a tight-beam thrower.

Thanks for all the info guys! Ive got to read about a lot stuff after my exams. Then Ill start to build my first flashlight!
