As soon as i got the light i started getting to work, putting a Getian green led in it, was curious how the beam profile is gonna turn out and…well, it’s awesome.
I might look more into good modding bases, maybe i could find one where i can just change the pill and have multiple pills with multiple setups (LED/drivers), but on the same host.
Those are fun. I think my C8+ has a green W2 in it right now.
Look into P60 hosts. They don’t seem to be talked about much anymore but they use the concept you described. I have no experience with them.
P60s have always suffered from a poor thermal path compared to “integrated shelf” type lights- only really an issue at high outputs, but it is a limitation to be aware of.
Pills are not a bad idea, it depends how frequently you anticipate changing the set-up… I imagine it would get tedious to change the pill on a daily basis, the reflector may end up damaging the LED with repeated changes.
True, daily would be an extreme case, though just knowing it’s possible and having multiple setups seems fun, just for the sake of tinkering.
It’s a shame all the cost is in the flashlight head, else you could just get a bunch and interchange them on the same body. I suspect the price difference between a whole S2+ and the head only would be fairly small though, so not worth doing unless one was very short of space…
