Convoy C8 plus sft 25r and. My convoy m21c

Okay my c8+ sft 25r smokes my m21c with the sft40 wondering what it’s gonna take to make it a beam cannon that’ll smoke the c8+ without getting blistering hot…Thank you for your input i need to know which way to go

You want 2 things: high surface intensity at the emitter, and large optic diameter.

SFT25R is pretty much as intense as it gets, so the only way forward is larger reflector, i.e., L21B or 3x21D.

Do you want more throw or just more light?

More throw than a SFT25R is hard to make, with an Osram CSLNM1.TG you would have a smaller DIE, but this LED can only go to around 8A, and that’s pushing it, better would be 6A (there isn’t much more light at 8A anyway).
Maybe a try with a LMP W5050SQ5 and a 10A or 8A driver would be interesting.

If you just want more light, plop an LHP73B in it and a 20A driver.

Edit: or maybe the new sft60 with the 15A driver (if it fits)?

1 Thank

Great clarifying question, it’s not immediately clear what the OP wants by “a beam cannon that’ll smoke the c8+ without getting blistering hot”.

From tests I’ve seen this emitter maxes out around 5-6A. In theory the surface intensity is slightly higher than SFT25R, but in practice the smaller die plays less well with reflectors, and you can end up with lower throw unless you’re comfortable with gasket modding (which takes a lot of patience for this 3030 emitter!) and lucky enough to get a good reflector.

I’ve got a couple samples and all of them under-perform the new SFT25R–great tint but less output and less throw.

Great suggestion if OP cares only about output+throw and not tint! It does get “blistering hot” quickly though.

If OP indeed wants more throw, the only way to do it is a bigger light. Just a fundamental physical limitation of linear optics, no way around it.
