I came across a stupid video on youtube and I now have the crazy idea to buy 3 flashlight with red, green and blue emitters just for fun to simulate starwars lightsabers.
After a quick research (thanks AI) for a cheap thrower with “wow” effect and coloured led, I narrowed down the choice to Convoy C8+ and M21E.
The main difference is that C8+ can be configured with both Getian GT and Osram LEDs, while the M21E only with Getian GT.
The price is comparable, just a couple of punds more for the M21E that has a convenient built-in charger as a bonus.
C8 and M21E use the same reflector so beam profile will be the same. M21E has a side switch, USB charging and it uses 21700 cells with much higher capacity.
If parts fit (have the same voltage etc.) Simon usually has no issues with custom orders like using a different emitter that’s not on the list.
The only thing that I understood untill now while I was surfing on internet is that I will have to buy another flashlight with SST-20 DR for night camping
Do you want the narrowest beam possible or the maximum output+throw possible? Either objective is sensible for a lightsaber-like beam; the latter gives you a much more solid beam at short distances.
For red+blue: for narrow beam, go with Osrams with a square emitting surface. For max output, go with Getian.
For the green color, only Osram offers phosphor-converted green (KP *****1.F1), which is broad-spectrum and brighter than monochromatic (Getian) green.
Considering that those would just be “toys” and I woud like to spend less as possible, do you think that Convoy T6 would be powerful enough to create the “lightsaber” effect?
I just realised that the Osram emitters are available also on the tiny T6
the T8, is almost as small but a larger reflector, so it will lightsaber more. if theres no option for the osrams in all the colors you can just ask him to put it in. by email or order notes. they will fit.
