Convoy Lightsaber - C8+ vs M21E

Hi all,

I came across a stupid video on youtube and I now have the crazy idea to buy 3 flashlight with red, green and blue emitters just for fun to simulate starwars lightsabers.

After a quick research (thanks AI) for a cheap thrower with “wow” effect and coloured led, I narrowed down the choice to Convoy C8+ and M21E.

The main difference is that C8+ can be configured with both Getian GT and Osram LEDs, while the M21E only with Getian GT.

The price is comparable, just a couple of punds more for the M21E that has a convenient built-in charger as a bonus.

What configuration would you suggest?

Thanks to support my insomnia

C8 and M21E use the same reflector so beam profile will be the same. M21E has a side switch, USB charging and it uses 21700 cells with much higher capacity.
If parts fit (have the same voltage etc.) Simon usually has no issues with custom orders like using a different emitter that’s not on the list.

Thanks Phantom for the info!

And what about the GT vs Osram LEDs?

I’m struggling to find many info about them…

The only thing that I understood untill now while I was surfing on internet is that I will have to buy another flashlight with SST-20 DR for night camping

M21e is my vote, purely because the side switch is going to feel much more lightsaber than the tail switch unless you’re going for reverse grip.

My favorite host is the Convoy M21E partly because of the reasons phantom23 mentioned.
A 45mm diameter head is the sweet spot for me.

Do you want the narrowest beam possible or the maximum output+throw possible? Either objective is sensible for a lightsaber-like beam; the latter gives you a much more solid beam at short distances.

For red+blue: for narrow beam, go with Osrams with a square emitting surface. For max output, go with Getian.

For the green color, only Osram offers phosphor-converted green (KP *****1.F1), which is broad-spectrum and brighter than monochromatic (Getian) green.

Thank you all for the info!

Originally I was thinking to add in the poll also the L21B, but then I removed it because over 60mm head would be a bit too much for my taste.

I think I will sleep on it for now, since I don’t have to buy it soon.

Thanks again

One more option - M21H with narrow 3-degree lens. Should be very concentrated but without bright wide spill.

The Z1 should be able to give the most pronounced beam with least spill, right? I don’t know for sure but I have one on the way.

compared to these lights yea, but with no spill at all. also with the osrams the fully zoomed will be square.

I did it with some Hank D1’s. No ragrets!

Those look amazing!

At least now I feel like I’m not so mad…I’m in good company!

I also have Darth Vader and Stormtrooper themed lights.

I’ll try to get a better pic of these later

Considering that those would just be “toys” and I woud like to spend less as possible, do you think that Convoy T6 would be powerful enough to create the “lightsaber” effect?
I just realised that the Osram emitters are available also on the tiny T6

Depends entirely on how much lightsaber effect you want. There’s no “yes or no”, but a continuous tradeoff between size and effect.

the T8, is almost as small but a larger reflector, so it will lightsaber more. if theres no option for the osrams in all the colors you can just ask him to put it in. by email or order notes. they will fit.
