Convoy M1 host & XP- L ?

I’m looking at the M1 host at cn quality and the XP-l at intoutdoor and want to know if the reflector will work for this or is there going to be issues. Looks like a good project for a noob modder like me if it will work

You need a XP-to-XM adapter. The reflector has a 7mm hole, and the typical XP centering ring is for a 5mm hole.

Ok, thanks for the links, I think I’ll give it a go

The FT ring will just fall into the M1's reflector unless you glue it to the star, the hole is just slightly larger than the ring. I recently put a de-domed XP-L V5 2A in a D4 (the OEM version). The stock centering ring will spin a bit, but works. It's even attractive if you get the corners of the die to meet the center of the stock centering ring's sides it makes a diamond pattern.

Makes a great light.

The reflector has a 9mm hole, not 7. That's why you can drop an MT-G2 in there.

on top of a standard 5mm XP locator, then. The 5mm round fits perfect inside the XML's square.

Oh, use both? Won't that raise the reflector too much? Seems perfect on mine without the XP ring, but maybe because mine's de-domed. Have to try one intact some time.

You can sand off a little from the bottom of both pieces and get back pretty close to the thickness of just one of them. Though, seeing as how the XP-L is just a slightly higher binned XM-L2 on a smaller substrate, I would save the XP-Ls for lights that have issues fitting a full-size XM-L2.

Ok, ordered the FT ring, I’ll try it with a dab of glue, thanks guys!

The one from FT won’t work with XP-L. Unlike in XP-E/XP-G, XP-L dome uses basically the whole substrate so you’ll need to cut the adapter. Also you can’t use two adapters at the same time because they’re designed to work with the emitter, notemitter + another adapter. I think with XM-L2 U3 available now, if your flashlight can fit XM-L2, there’s no sense to play with XP-L.

XP-L de-domes better. Dale posted that he thought it didn't drop in output as much as XM-L/L2 and also tends to not shift to greenish tints. I haven't done enough de-domes to confirm that but the two XP-L's I did turned out well, pleasantly yellowish with no obvious greenish tint.

So the FT ring works if the dome is missing? Maybe I’ll try my hand at dedoming

The FT ring fit de-domed XP-L, I didn't try it with the dome on. Next time I open an XP-L I'll try it and report here (if I can find this thread again, so many threads ).

FT version fit on dome/dedomed XPL. I used more than 10pcs already. The only problem that is a more expensive and currently in back-order. I will try to get Aliexpress version too.

YUP, XP-L dedome is safer and cleaner than XM-L. Color is wonderful! No greenish tint.
