My most used light is my Convoy S2+ and it’s great. But I often use it with a diffuser or tailstanding for long periods and it gets quite hot. Is there a light is similar size that can put out 2-300 Lumens for awhile without getting really hot? I don’t mind if it’s a bit thicker just not huge
The S2+ should easily be able to do that without getting hot. The diffuser is adding to your heat issue. Look for a light with a wider beam. Maybe something with a beaded lens such as some headlights. Wukkos hd15. All armytek headlights. And plenty of others.
What driver and Emitter do you have in your S2+?
I’m assuming you are running it @ 100%
The S2+ with SST40 is above 200lm @ 10% with the standard 5A driver it comes with.
With a different Emitter you may need to run it @ 20%.
If you have a lower output driver like a 8×7135 you might need to run it @ 35% to get above 200lm.
Convoy s21b or s21d with a buck or boost driver for efficiency. Or if you want to stay with 18650 wait for the 17mm boost driver.

Use less power.
To get the same lumens with the same heat to use less power that means you’d have to increase efficiency, either by using a more efficient driver, like a buck driver, or a more efficient LED. You’d have to look up the lumens/watt on the datasheet and also how it changes with CCT and CRI. This might mean using an LED with an ugly tint, a higher CCT and a lower CRI, or a more expensive LED. A cooler, low CRI version of the same LED may be as much as 10-30% more efficient than a warmer higher CRI bin and the differences between individual LEDs and types of drivers is even greater. At that low output tho most LEDs are pretty efficient. Efficiency will change with the current so you’d find the best efficiency at 300 lumens or w/e you want. Using a high output 18650 with a low internal resistance would also help here -
increase the ability of the flashlight to disappate heat. Either by using different materials, having less air gap or a better thermal path between those materials, increasing the surface area of the flashlight, by just using a bigger flashlight or one with more cooling fins. Whatever gets you more surface area or even more mass since that would at least increase the ability to store heat. Even just a different color of anondized aluminum would change the amount of heat lost to the surroundings through radiation.

The last two things are the easiest. Almost all of convoy’s flashlights are bigger and have more surface area than the s2+. And a fan is a fan.
