Convoy S2+ CSLNM1 with Convoy TIR lenses

Hey guys, going to experiment with Convoy's TIR lenses on an S2+ with a CSLNM1 but I'm not sure how their lenses perform with the W1 emitter. Am I going to run into focusing or fitment issues with this host-emitter-lens combo? Planning to get most of the angles offered for the TIR, but which would produce the best beam/light quality - I've read people recommend the beaded ones over the clear or frosted/matte - does this recommendation still hold true for the S2+ with a W1? I'm getting all W1 colors offered by Convoy too - does the emitter color affect how these TIR perform?

Or am I doomed to buy every single TIR lens option and just find out for myself?

More experienced members, please chime in. I have the 5 and 10 degree clear TIRs, which run into centering problems with the Osram emitters. The opening at the base of the TIR is for 3535 emitters, while the Osram is 3030, so there is quite a bit of wiggle room to mess up the beam. I don't think there's a dedicated TIR for 3030.

I suspect that introducing a butterfly-shaped centering device for 3535 emitters might work: one can carve out the edges of the square hole to make it fit 3030, while the raised portion of the gasket has diameter 5mm (equal to diagonal of 3535 emitter) and would thus fit into the base of the TIR. There will be some issues with height, but I think sand paper can take care of that.

I’ve done this mod,you can search my thread where i talk about it, for centering, you will need a lot of trials and errors, until you find the best spot, only with luxmeter you can check the focusing, the height of the 5 degree convoy TIR is fine without centering ring,if you use ring,it will be too high, didn’t try to sand the TIR down, but for me s2+ with cslnm1 and 426m throw is already good,I’ve pushed it a little bit more with careful centering, but not night and day difference, like 450m is the max I’ve got.

That’s what I did. Only way to learn…

Besides, one person’s “X is the greatest!” is the next person’s “ewww, that sux!”.

Very helpful input, I have a few of those butterfly 3535 gaskets as freebies, this will put them to good use.

Not really going for throw, but more for controlling the beam quality of the S2+ and CSLNM1s. Interested in doing some photography or light painting with these. These will be my first CSLNM1 lights so I've zero real-world experience with them. Will check out your own tests, thanks!

Looks like this is the choice I'm stuck with. I know I'm going to enjoy experimenting around, but detest the thought of not finding any use for most of them afterwards.

I think I'll try focusing on just the flat/clear and beaded TIR lenses and skip the frosted/matte line entirely and save myself a couple of bucks.

Or are the frosted/matte ones actually better?
