Convoy S2 short circuit fault?

No sure if this has been raised before but I noticed after my 14 month old son bashed my Convoy S2 light around, it stopped working.

Dissembled and found the tail switch had continuity, and I unsoldered the led chip and found that to be ok after I directly wired a battery to it.

So i figured the PCB was faulty. After looking at my brass base thingy and LED I noticed that when you drop the alloy reflector on top of the led, the positive terminal solder connection on the led comes scarily close to the aluminium reflector.

My hypothesis is that my son has bashed the torch hard enough to cause a short on the aluminium reflector damaging the PCB.

Has anyone else experienced this?

not sure what constitutes as “bashing” but, having seen my nephew in action, it could be all sorts of things

Are any parts missing on the driver? these lights are relatively easy to troubleshoot, if the emitter is fine and the switch as well there must be an issue with solder joints, missing parts (broken off from board?) or the battery/wiring. not many other places to look for…

put in another driver or check the driver separately.

Hook the battery up with the driver in and put your multi meter leads on the LED PCB to check for voltage.

Yeah so I put in a new driver and it’s working fine.

Hooked a battery up to the old one and the output leads are measuring 0.41v.

Connected a crappy latticebright emitter up and it glows very dim, flashing brighter momentarily. It’s flickers even when I’m not touching anything. Tried wiggling stuff but it looks like the PCB has had a brain fart.

Btw when I reassembled the light I insulated the base of the aluminium reflector with a sticky ring that was on top of my Sanyo 2ah 18650’s. (Which I harvested 40 of them from two chainsaw battery packs)

The convoy has not many parts on thme pcb, as it has multiple 7135 its unlikely they are defective

Then there is the 8 pin controller chip with firmware controlling the driver
and some resistors and caoacitors
As well as wires to the LED board

Sometimes a solder spot is not working correctly, just so,der each point on driver again and add solder if needed to make sure its connected

Re-Solder each connection???

Better lay-off the fresh ground coffee for a week before I attempt this!!!

you have lost a Gaskets for Cree XM-L
https://www.fasttech.com/products/1616/10001923/1182004-insulation-gaskets-for-cree-xm-l-t6-led-emitters

Yes, I have the gasket on there, but if the solder sticks up slightly it will make contact with the aluminium reflector.

just slap some electrical tape of kapton tape for double security
