I’ve just bought an S2+ with the 12 group 5A buck driver, running it in group 10 (1, 10, 35, 100) and with memory turned off. So far so good. However the light needs to be off for ten seconds before it will reset to low mode, switching back on within ten seconds results in it advancing to the next mode. My S6 (with the same 12 group 5A driver) and two T3s only need to be off for 2-3 seconds so this seems like a really long time.
Is this normal for an S2+? If not, is it something I should speak to Simon about? It’s probably not a problem in real use, but if it’s not working as it should I’m slightly worried that it might go wrong.
Has the driver (including spring) been soldered or manipulated (heat, solder, etc) by you after the flashlight arrived? Or did it arrived like this, stock?
If the later, maybe it is a faulty component or something
EDIT: Also, have you been using (very) high drain batteries or let the flashlight ON for a long period?
No, it arrived like this. I was initially thinking that it was impossible to switch off mode memory because my usual half-press for three seconds didn’t go back to low mode. It was only after a couple of tries that I realised that the mode was actually advancing.
The battery is a Sanyo NCR18650GA, 3500mah, 10A discharge. It has not been on for more than a couple of minutes at a time as it’s not getting dark until late here at the moment, so it’s only been played with.
I’ve only tried opening it in so far as I’ve taken the caps off both ends and tested that the retaining rings were screwed tight as suggested earlier. I have also cleaned the threads and the end of the tube but that’s all I’ve done.
Your explanation about the off time capacitor sounds right to me. I’ve sent Simon an email explaining the symptoms and asking if he can help. It may be a minor thing but it is bothersome when it doesn’t behave the same way as my other Convoy clicky lights.
It does. I think it was in group one when it arrived because it had the blinkies as part of the modes which really didn’t make disabling memory any easier.
