. I've worked on a couple S2's/S2+'s, S3's, many other EDC's - triples, TIR optics, or straight setups.
Put a triple in it or throw it away!
Maybe you are dealing with a S2 and a S2+?
I recognise the large pill and the short reflector as the ones that came in my S2+.
I’ve read somewhere that the S2 has a smaller pill and a long reflector.
Combined (large pill+short refl. versus small pill+long refl.) they are +/- same size.

Yes - probably S2 vs. S2+. There's been some variations out there - 2 kinds of S2+'s even - the red one is unique right now with having the SS switch button.
For the LED wires, what I do (maybe not everyone) is keep the wires as short as possible. I mount the driver, or at least get it into it's position, then trim the LED wires to fit to the + and - pads. So, the last thing I do in assembling the pill is solder the LED wire leads - this makes them the shortest possible length -- least possible resistance. This means when you take the pill apart in the future, you must de-solder the LED wires first before removing the driver. Most stock lights are not like this - they have extra length wire coiled up in the pill, but stock wires are usually 28 or 30 AWG while I use 24, 22, or 20 AWG, depending on what I fit. Generally, I'm using 22 AWG wires.
I dunno for sure, but I think most modders do it this way. 22 AWG coiled up in the pill may not fit anyway, depending on the space you got.
For a triple in a S3 (old S3, not S3+), what I did was buy one of RMM's S2 spacers (here), and sanded it down to the height needed for the S3. Got to do some careful measurements, and of course a belt or disc bench sander helps big time. I used the disc sander for mine (harborfreight.com/4-inch-x-36-inch-belt-6-inch-disc-sander). There other methods I'm sure, but I'm limited what I can do, machining wise, in both equipment and know-how.
The S3 used to be by favorite EDC tube light before the RED S2+.
