Convoy S21A (Short Technical Review)

Cheers everyone!
Does anyone know what kind of thread is used in the tailcap to hold the switch in place? For a modification project I need to 3D print a part with the same thread. I’m from Europe so I’m not familiar with threads outside of metric threads. My closest guess would be ANSI 3/4-28 UN right now? Unfortunately, a test printed ANSI 3/4-28 UN created with Fusion 360 did not fit.

I almost responded, but the info in my mind was for a emisar light.

I’ll be checking the s21 in a minute here at work

Edit: ok… .743 od on the brass ring. Kind close to 19mm if you ask me.

Also with my old eyes, it appears to be about .75mm pitch

And it’s left handed as well.

Start with that, 19mm x .75 pitch, LH.

I don’t know what’s common for metric, as .7mm pitch is also close

To my knowledge M19 isn’t a common thread size - so Fusion360 doesn’t have a M19 thread option out of the box - and that’s why I’ve been looking for 3/4” non metric threads instead. But you are right, if (!) it’s a metric thread, it would be M19 x 0,75.

I don’t have such with me (S21A) but from justanotherguy if it has .75mm pitch (eyeballing it), I be looking at 3/4” x 32 TPI Left Hand. That’s closer to .75mm than 28 TPI.

BTW, all 24 or 32 TPI are standard on inch stock bar. But a better way to check pitch is against a known screw. Doesn’t matter the size, just if the threads mesh*. OD of threaded part is always some .005 to .008” less than nominal (sometimes much more for sloppy fit).

EDIT: * Oops – Left-hand thread can’t mesh stock screws (right hand). But check if crests line up.

Thank you Sidney! I’m going to give “3/4” × 32 TPI” a shot! Might have to buy a new and smaller nozzle though. I’ll keep you posted!

Could check with standard #6, #8, or #10 screw (these are 32TPI) and aligning up the crests. Might need a magnifier to get into the tight spaces.

Geez, my bad. You’re in Germany so those screws wouldn’t be readily available. Perhaps from some US made item, just provisional borrowing.

Addendum:
Don’t mean to be condescent, but a set of screw pitch gages saves the day (Link to Ali Ex). Machinist by trade and had a few surprises with some of the in-house threads – flashlights and other things. Also a digital caliper is essential in measurement (link Ali Ex ).

Does anyone know if the snap-on clip that Convoy sell for the S2+ fits the S21A? I have seen a couple of sellers on ebay say it does, but I’ve broken a couple of clips on my S2+’s just from general use so I wonder if the extra stress on the clip shortens their life? (Or causes them to keep popping off the flashlight body?)

The lack of a clip is the biggest thing stopping me from grabbing one at the moment…

Generally speaking, the brightness of moonlight is used for reading books or checking maps. If the brightness is too high, the light will be very dazzling.

Moonlight can sometimes be useful maybe, but i think sub lumen mode (even lower than the average moon mode) is just a hype because a few people keep begging for it while the rest of us have no practical use for it, especially in an otherwise powerful 1000 or more lumen light.
And so another useful mode is often sacrificed for the sub lumen mode, causing overly large jumps in brightness.
Also you often can’t even see if that the light is turned on in sub lumen mode when you’re not in complete darkness.
And who reads a book with a cigar type 21700 or 18650 light anyway?

But that’s just my opinion as a flashlight user in real life situations.
I was a big fan of the LD25 3 mode driver.
Just 3 well enough spaced modes (and a hidden strobe) suits all my needs for a 10 Watt light.
Yes, for a 20 Watt light an extra lower mode would be good, but not lower than 50 lumen.

With BS i also mean configuration mode with too many options and things like that.
Not neccesary when you have 3 or 4 well spaced modes from 50 or 100 lumen to maximum output.
But again, that’s just my opinion.
But it’s annoying that a driver with well spaced modes is hard to find.
