Convoy S21E bevel removal

Hopefully a daft question, but I’ve tried gripping the smooth bezel with Theraband rubber tape but there’s not much bezel to get a purchase on. Before I go further, does the stainless bezel unscrew? I have a honeycomb TIR to go in it. Not really a TIR, a white 23.3mm with honeycomb lens.

Yes, it unscrews.
Simon sells jagged Bezels for it, here’s a picture:

I have unscrewed it many times, it works. The first time just takes some patience, don’t give up!

Thank you guys, might have been one for the “There are no stupid questions” thread

I’ll warm it gently with a damp hot cloth.

Annoyingly the TIR doesn’t fit though it’s listed as suitable for S21E. Looks like I should have bought the 21mm.

Is it worth sanding the raised bit on the base down flat?

Bummer!

If it was me, I’d try it

You use it without the white cup. Be careful with the corners of the LED.

That’s worth knowing, thank you :+1:

If you have a 3535 LED you can even use the 23.5mm TIRs Simon has without any white holders. Those replace both the reflector and the front glass (unlike the one you have, that still needs the glass as far as I am aware).

In fact, the 23mm tir is suitable for use without the lens, while the 21mm version is the one that is suitable for use with the lens. However, the bevel is still not as seamless as before.

As an update to this, there is no way to make the lens fit without sanding the base to lower it and allow it to fit behind the glass. Removing the honeycomb optic from the white plastic cup, it sits inside the existing orange peel reflector, but the bezel can’t be screwed down properly, there’s a big gap. In this case it needs the glass to hold it in place.

Dropping the whole white cup and optic into where the OP reflector was placed, the bezel screws down without the glass lens but not enough, there’s a gap and it rattles. With the glass lens, the bezel doesn’t even begin to find the thread to screw down.

Apologies for no pics to illustrate, I’m away and don’t have the light with me. I haven’t flat ground the base yet, so I’ll see how that mod works out soon.

Ah no, this one has the 2700K Nichia in there, I’m after flickering candlelight. Though your option might be worth a try because this one is not fitting without either rattling about, or the bezel just about catching the thread but not able to screw down fully.

I’ve only glanced through this thread, but if you sand the base you will alter the focus. Looks like you are using a honeycomb optic so it may not matter though.
