Just recieved my new Convoy S3 today, which is going to be the guinea pig for my triple. Something strange seems to be happening.
When first turned on in the lowest setting (5%), which is to bright, (moonlight!) after approx. 5 seconds, it blinks off, just once, and doesn’t do it again unless I turn it off and on again. Doesn’t do it on any other setting, just the lowest mode. Either Group setting. Tried both 18650’s and 18350’s fully charged. Does it with both.
Specs: 7135 x 8 XM - L2 U2 1A (6500 - 7000K) 1100Lm.
I’m assuming it’s the driver or the firmware. Or is this supposed to be normal ? Defective ?
My Astrolux S1 doesn’t do this, which by the way, I luv the driver options and moonlight mode.
Could someone advise me ?
A bit annoying but I can live with it if I have to, but not for long, (triple).
First off, that 140mA Low isn’t near “Moonlight”, but nevermind that.
It sounds like you have the standard NANJG-105D driver. If you blink into Low mode, after a few seconds it will blink Off as a signal. If you’ll turn it off at that moment (within a second or so of the blink signal), you’ll change Mode Groups from L-M-H to L-M-H-Strobe-SOS, or vice-versa.
Try that & see. If it does that, you’re looking at the normal behavior. If it doesn’t change groups (be quick about turning it off at the signal), post back here telling what did happen.
HTH…
Your right. After doing some more searching I found a review that went through specifics as to setting up your modes. Evidently I was only halfway in setup.
All is well. Appreciate your help DTB….
By the way, I knew that isn’t moonlight. Saying it “should” have it…
Your setup description was much more accurate than the one I found. Just a heads up. Thanks again.
I could tell by your parentheses you were being sarcastic. I was trying to reciprocate.
I find both features “a bit annoying”. I mean, why 3 ~evenly-spaced steps? I do like the Medium mode as an alternative, (and I would have never thought I’d ever say this) but I’d rather Low actually be more Moon-like. If you’re going to go High, go all the way High, right, so why not the same rule for Low?
And I’ve thought until my head hurts trying to come up with some way of signaling that Mode Group change opportunity, but the one blink always comes out less annoying. At least Strobe and SOS are hidden.
I find myself just skipping past Low & never using it (unless I need Strobe or SOS someday), which gets pretty annoying too. It’s essentially a wasted mode for me, and I’m allergic to waste.
How does that song go? “Two (good modes) out of three ain’t bad.”
I should add that this still beats the daylights out of having to find some way to break a solder trace if you ever actually need Strobe or SOS.
I suppose if I’m out in the wilderness lost, possibly I’d find a need for Strobe or SOS but always disabled in my case.
