Looking for some advice on Convoy S2 or S15 form factor lights
I seem to recall there used to be a firmware that allowed reprogramming to a single mode (high), and that there was also a version of the convoy lights that came with a forward clicky switch (as opposed to an aftermarket kit) but I’m not sure what to look for.
I like neutral or the cooler side of neutral, not a big fan of warm lights. A nice balance of throw and spill, and ideally 500 lumens (brighter would be better, but looking for at least an hour of regulated runtime). I plan on getting several to give out to friends and family with USB-C rechargeable 18650s.
If this is doable where would the go to place to find then be, aliexpress?
Every 12 group convoy driver has a 100% only option as far as I am aware. Will need a reverse clicky to set it up, or some seriously fast fingers though, as convoys config needs 20 fast taps from on to enter, probably hard/impossible on a forward clicky.
No idea about the forward clicky switches, and if they have different UI drivers for those.
Difficult if you’re not used to it, but far from impossible. I do it all the time as I install fwd clickies on pretty much all my Convoys.
For that reason, @refleks, I also recommend getting using the standard reverse clicky first, to set up the UI.
I have asked Simon to install fwd clicky on an M1 years ago, and he did it for me. But he gets a lot of requests so he may not do it anymore. He sells forward clickies on his store but you will have to assemble them yourself. You could try DM-ing him on convoy.aliexpress.com - there’s no harm in asking. He’s fairly active on BLF as well, but I tend to make requests like this to him directly on Aliexpress.
What I personally do is buy pre-built forward clicky switches from Kaidomain and install them myself. It’s very simple, just need to trim the inner nub of the rubber boot (and sometimes need to file the washer to a larger diameter) and it’s basically a drop-in replacement.
As far as regulated driver - the 5A buck is a bit buggy in that it drops off from 100% quite drastically and immediately. I don’t recommend it. The 3v8A driver is much better, but since you are wanting to limit yourself to single-mode only and as the 12-group UI only offers 100% as a single mode option - it would be very very hot on an S2/S15. The linear drivers are actually decently regulated. Maybe go with a cslnm1.tg osram emitter, those are CW, efficient, and quite throwy, even in an S2.
