Convoy weapon mounting

Basically, I’m wondering how suitable a Convoy C8 would be to mounting on a .223 or 5.56 carbine? They are quiet durable given the price point and performance one gets, but I don’t like all the exposed components on the driver. Can/should this be mitigated, and how?

Generally speaking, I’d like to have the option of a hunting light for my carbines. I have a different setup for home defense so it doesn’t necessarily need to be critically reliable, but I don’t want to ruin a good light or risk a high probability failure, either. Like I said, this would be for a carbine length 5.56 so some recoil but nothing wild.

Round you up some potting compound and pot all the electronics. That should keep it from failing due to recoil. I think there is even a place making them already potted with a optional remote switch. Is it Kaidomain? I’m sure somebody will correct me if i’m wrong. I usually am.

This company makes potted Convoys but their website says they are in the middle of a large order and not taking orders

Besides potting the driver, you’d have to make sure the battery keeps contact. Might need to reinforce one of the springs or both of them.

I think the battery movement in the tube smashing springs is more a concern than the electronics failing due to recoil. A 5.56 weapon, assuming AR15 variant is extremely gentle in recoil. Further, Convoy C8s are pretty robust. Others like the Kaidomain offerings and the Sofirn lights are as well. Mount one up and bang away.

So right now I have one of the Desert Tan Convoy C8’s with the XPL-HI emitter and smooth reflector. Its a pretty impressive thrower, at least for me, but I’m wondering if something like the LH351D or SST20 would offer similar performance with better cct and cri? Or would I be giving up throw and/or output?

Somebody here says you sacrifice 25% output to have 90CRI and another 25% to go beyond 95CRI. Anyway, high output and high CRI don’t come together. For me a nice compromise is Luxeon V 4000K. Fine output, pleasant rosy tint and hard to believe it’s only 70CRI. You can buy them @ L4P store.
