Convoy Z1 SFT40 won't allow me to change brightness level

Hi,

I have a Convoy Z1 SFT40 that is around 2 years oldish. I haven’t had any issues with it up to this point, but it has stopped allowing me to change brightness settings. I don’t remember the exact mode i had selected, but it would go from low, mid-low, mid-hi, to hi/max. Now when i turn it on its only going to the low setting and won’t let me change the brightness settings. I’ve also tried to change modes and it seems to go through the full process where i get to the different number of blinks to choose a new mode and after i select the new mode it doesn’t accept the change and still only turns on to the low light mode.

The batteries are fully charged and i’ve immediately tried them in other 21700 lights with no issues. I’ve tried both Samsung 40T and 50E.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Does it have the 22mm 6A driver?
The same thing happened to my 6A driver and I had to replace it.

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, I have no idea! I bought this off of the classifieds on this site and no nothing about the driver. Is that something that is possible written/listed somehow on the driver?

Also, is replacing a driver easy or difficult? I’m still a relative novice with led lights and am not confident in doing anything very technical or challenging with these.

Thanks again.

Post a picture of it.

You’ll need a Soldering iron and some solder.

I’m not sure if you can see what you need to with these pics. If not, I’ll definitely try again. I’m guessing the driver is in the tail cap? I wasn’t sure so i took pics of the inside front as best i could as well.

Thanks again.

I think i’ve learned that the driver isn’t in the tail cap! but soldered to the emitter in the front. Is the driver the red object inside the tube?

1 Thank

Yes, the driver is the Red PCB.
That looks like the 8A Buck driver.
I haven’t had any issues with those, but the issue you are having seems like a driver issue to me.

i’m not sure how/why, but as the guy in me started taking over and i started disassembling it as much as i could it must have done something to it. after re-assembling it started working just fine. i had to change the setting/mode back to what i originally had, but its working fine now.

Thanks again for your help. Very much appreciated.
