I have an S2+ with a 519A that I upgraded to the buck driver from the linear and mine runs cooler in the lower modes, 35% takes longer to get hot, but 50% and 100% it will run hot. Runtimes are better, all my S2+s are in 18350 format, so, I really appreciate the longer runtime.

I mainly noticed that 50 and 100 ran hot. For 100 it was pretty muvh expected, on 50 I expected it to heat less. Mine’s 18350 as well - I never managed to empty a 18650 flashlight in one go so don’t really care for those. I do manage to empty an 18350 cell though, so more efficiency would be very welcome.

I need some other parts from Simon anyway, guess it’s time for another big order. Convoy is making me poor haha.

I usually have mine set to 50% max (group 8) since the difference in visual brightness is so small between 50-100%.

Noticed the same. I still have to try with a 18650, but with 18350 the difference is tiny. Currently on Mode 2.

Linear regulator is not so bad for a single cell single 3V LED light. The efficiency is usually at 80% or so. For a buck driver it can be up to 95% so you gain about 15% runtime in the best case. For a small battery like a 18350 it could mean 60 minutes vs 69 minutes or a bit less than 10 minutes runtime.

I like buck drivers but after a lot of real world testing and calculations I accepted linear driver as a viable option for single cell 3v lights. It’s at least regulated with fairly okay efficiency.

Pure FET driver on the other hand is pure crap which gives terrible efficiency and sloped runtime graph. Since you need to pick a series resistor to not fry the LED, its value is always a compromise, which is too low at full battery and too high at low battery.

The 90mm diameter TIR-lens is so heavy that it is not suitable for making a flashlight.
A TIR lens of this size is more suitable for use in commercial spotlamp.
50mm 3degree lens is in stock . I am waiting for the production of the corresponding flashlight housing to be completed.

Buck drive is more efficient than the linear driver, but it does not help much to reduce heat. Heat dissipation mainly depends on the flashlight shell. The larger the shell size, the stronger its heat dissipation capacity.

How heavy is it?
I think for a large flashlight like 3x21D or bigger it would be fine, as long as there is a place for a shoulder strap.

I saw the T5 has lanyard holes on both sides of the button - could you make that the new standard @Simon_Mao?

I love the convoy screw-in-clips, but on most lights (for example S2+) you can only use either lanyard or screw-in-clip. With holes on both sides, we can use both.

That is not too heavy.

I recently bought a soda can thrower with a total weight of over 1kg, and it wasn’t that bad.

It gets annoying to carry in the hand after a while, but a shoulder strap makes it easy.

I’d be willing to pay a bit extra for colorful aluminum.
