My T2 has a nice low mode with both AA and 14500.

And maybe it’s not really the 1% vs 0.1% since my older T2 came with the 1%-10%-35%-100% spacing. Here’s a review on one by @bilakos10: [Review] Convoy T2 || 1x14500 / 1xAA

The 5A buck drivers with supposedly 0.1% are also too bright for low. The 5A linear drivers, which I have plenty of, have a very nice low. Although with some of them there’s not much difference between 0.1% and 1%. But at least they have a nice moonlight mode!

Agreed! The low mode (to me) is one of the most important modes and then after that the spacing between the modes. Maybe there’s a reason why the buck drivers don’t have a very low low?

I’ve heard some things about very low outputs being unstable/flickery with a buck driver. But strangely, the 2.5A buck driver for deep red gave both the lowest moonlight and the best visual mode spacing I’ve ever seen from a Convoy driver.

Though it does has its quirks: the moonlight, being 40x dimmer than 1% (a very good moonlight indeed!), draws almost the same current.

It actually doesn’t look as yellow in real as it does on this picture.
atm I don’t have a use for this LED, I just bought the 4000K and lower to have a look at them. I’m more of a 5000K or more kind of guy, built the FC40 1800K light just because I wanted to try it out.

how’s the felt brightness of the 4000K vs 5000K? Am I losing out on a lot of efficacy if I get the 4000K? If you feel no difference I’ll get 4000.

The LED in the light looks way better (GT-FC40), hands down. The LHP531A just looks like cat urine, gross

Anyone who uses high CRI LEDs in everyday life is likely to notice the difference between 70 and 90 CRI. The 1800 K version should have a CRI of at least 80 so that it can be used for ambient lighting without any major compromises.

For me, that is the only real disadvantage of the 1800 K version. If the LHP531 were available in 90 CRI and with a slightly pinkish tint, Simon would have a unique selling point and a very interesting LED.

I have a few LEDs of each variant of the LHP531 on the way (thanks to the German Flashlight Forum!), so let’s see how extreme the difference between 70 and 95 CRI at 1800 K (NTG35 / FFL351A 95 CRI) will be.

What is it with that tint that so many people want?
My preference is a neutral light color, like most LHP531 do achieve, why would I want that light to be tinted, and why would that be pink, of all colours?
So that white skin looks more natural?

I have put the 5000k LHP531 in my Lumintop FW1A pro and it works very well in there.

Different people, different preferences. That’s the reason. Some prefer rosy, some are happy with yellow or green, some want 10000 K bluish light.

I prefer slightly rosy tints, as reddish and orange tones stand out more and the saturation is slightly higher. It shouldn’t be too rosy either; something between -0.004 and -0.001 would be perfect for me. That said, the 219BT-V1 sw45k will always have a special place in my tint snob career, as it was the first LED that sparked my love for tints and light quality

It is impossible for all LEDs to be in one bin when the whole batch is put into production.
This is a picture that I negotiated with the factory before. Most of the LEDs produced are in the two bins below the blackbody trace.

I think in my test I will specify the lowest possible bin, noting that the LEDs may perform better depending on tolerances.

FYI: The LHP531 6500 K achieves approximately 6200 lm at around 26 A. At 2.8 Amps (standard current of old 105c drivers) it reaches about 1250 lm at only 2.80 V. Considering that this LED can be directly swapped with XM-L2 and other (older) 5050 LEDs, it is all the more interesting for older (Convoy) lights and this is the main reason why I am interested in testing this LED.

With the LHP531, the throw is likely to be slightly lower than with the old XM-L/XM-L2, as the light-emitting surface is larger.
However, the luminous flux gain compared to an XM-L is likely to be between 30 and 50%, depending on the bin originally used.

Yeah, the Lupines are mainly made for trail running and cycling, so they are kinda throwy. A bit more flood isn’t too bad.

Another thing I’m curious about, since the new gen emitters are more efficient, it should be able to sustain the high mode for quite a bit longer, as less energy is turned into heat at the same driving current. I just hope it has a buck, so I benefit from the lower Vf, too. Since it runs off 2S, seems like it is a buck indeed.
