Anyone tried these yet? The interface description somewhat leaves to be desired. I mean:

Half press 2 times for mid 1.5A mode? This is because of on-time memory, doesn't it? I mean, if I switch on it goes into high mode, then if I wait the on-time lapse (maybe 2 seconds?) or more I need to press twice to change to mid 1.5A. But if switch on and then press again quick enough it goes into mid, isn't it?
From mid 1.5A mode what if I press again once or twice to change to next mode? Is there a low mode or does it goes into high again?
What does reset means? What does it?

Is it possible to set mode currents like in the LD-25?

the tails of gray and black S11 are little different ,you can not change the switch directly ,friend

What I mean is I want to precisely select maximum mode current. It seems it comes defined with a maximum of 8A, this can be nice for some emitters but let’s say I want to drive an 1mm² CSLNM1.TG at ≈4.5 - 5A absolute maximum, nothing more.

Can I set the current like in the LD-25?

if you want to enter into the 2nd mode,
first,turn the flashlight on ,second,double half-press the button.no need to wait .

if the current mode is 2nd ,
half-press one time ,it returns to the 1st mode,
half-press 3times, it enters into 3nd mode

if you have set the brightness of 1st mode or 2nd mode ,but you are not satisfied ,and you want to return it to original state.then you can half-press the button 8times to reset.

So, what you are telling me is the driver has only two normal modes: high (stock 8A) and low (stock 1.5A), and both can be set via ramping by tapping 5 times when using the mode. Thus, if I am on high or low and tap 5 times, I enter a 3 loop ramping where I can set brightness or the amount of mode current: whenever I tap when ramping the current is set at that level. An 8-tap sequence resets current for all modes.

Is this what you mean, Simon?

Hope the ramping is very slow or it will be hard to properly set the current.

The driver is a FET driver it seems, which is why the current draw depends on the internal resistance of the cell.

That’s what I dislike about this driver: with ramping you can’t define a constant current, but a percentage of the max current. It means that the current/light output will decrease when the cell voltage is decreasing. Or is the 1.5A mode a constant current mode?

As far as I understand the SST-40 driver works in linear mode. Don't get fooled by the current 4.5 - 6A, depends on battery, 8A on DC power supply quote:

The quote is likely meant to avoid misunderstandings with n00bs or other sort of couldknowbetter people in AliExpress. The driver senses current in the onboard R005 sense resistor, then tunes the MOSFET gate voltage as required for the mode set current: stock 8A for 1st mode and 1.5A for 2nd mode. The reason for the quoted 4.5 - 6A is because that is what you will get with non high current cells and/or high Vf emitters.

Stacking additional sense resistors on top of the stock R005 will raise the stock 8A cap current limit. Sense voltage is 40mV so do the math if you will: an R020 adds 2A, for example. Enhacing the MOSFET cooling would be a good idea if so.

Hope Simon can understand well what I say and confirm it. I like this driver.

No, wrong! don’t drive them at 5.75A , that number only counts for a perfect reflow and perfect cooling on a rig. Most people in real flashlight builds use 4.5 A as the best current.

Thanks for chiming in djozz, I was going to quote your figures and say about the same. Let me also add led4power uses lead free solder, using standard Sn₆₃Pb₃₇ is another reason to reduce driving current.

P.S.: did someone tested the new SST-40 driver?
