Cool old lantern - huge reflector

Big o’l Lantern

maybe a fun project for someone

cool indeed

Made in Marion, IN. That’s the next town south of here…

Imagine the run time if you filled it with 18650’s.

Looks nice but why not just do a flashlight if you're using a reflector? Either way I would love to see what OL could do with it.

That’s my kind of mod! Might get 10p(zigzag)18650 with a spring mod and sst90. Metal reflector?

The reflector probably would work with a Zenon bulb, but I wouldn't think it would work with a led very well. Very large, but very shallow. Most of the light off an led would probably never touch the reflector. HID might be a better idea.

I've often thought about doing an old light, but really they were made so poorly compared to a newer one, I just never wanted to mess with it. I think someone else should do one though, LOL.

I have one of those in my antique flashlight collection. The original light took two large 1.5v dry cell and a long solid fillament bulb.I converted mine with a 4D holder and 6volt lantern bulb.OL is right though….not a good host for an LED at all.It is fun too see how far things have come in the flashlight world with these old lights. When this was built I am sure it was the XM-L of the day….now, a hard driven Q5 can kick it’s A$$!Everyone have a great weekend-Rick

yeah ti wont work with LED very well.

My friend recently tried to mod one xrenon flashlight (Ledwave Z8 Targeter), with some CREE LED, but unsuccesful. Reflector is to shallow - although much less shallow than this one - just not suitable for LED. You get a big doghnut hole in the middle

The idea was for an area use light. Basically a mule with the reflector just for show. Probably frost the lens as well.
