A family member of mine is a police officer and I'd like to give him a Solarforce L2 w/a manafont drop-in for his birthday. I'm actually quite excited -- he was not familiar with the brand "CREE"
However, he's religiously committed to disposable CR123s. Not entirely sure why, but I'm guessing it's because they're higher capacity than rechargeables (1500mah vs 900mah), higher voltage in 2xCR123 format and convenience trumps cost for his line of work (it's the American way).
So... a few questions:
- Can I use the beloved manafont drop-in with 2xCR123s? It's rated at 4.2v and not sure if excess voltage fry it or just be wasted.
- Do they make rechargeables that would last as long as -- or be as bright as -- disposables in his 2xCR123 edc, a 4sevens light that's probably a Quark (it's pocketable), doesn't have an XML and is between 1-3 years old?
- What's the point of having a 3-9 volt flashlight with an LED that needs way less? Brighter/longer runtime as disposables wear down?
Thanks!!!
