Copper Patina on Lumentop LM

Hello,

So I just got my Lumentop LM10 in copper. Been trying to force patina the thing with no luck. Stays super shinny and bright like a pretty penny. I have tried the hand soap method and also the hot water and baking soda method. I am beginning to think this thing has a clear coat of the sort. Any suggestions on how to remove if it has one?

Does it smell like pennies and make your hand smell like them? If not, then it probably has a clear coat

Not really. Hmmm. I wonder why they go through the hassle of shipping in a vacuum bag with moisture absorber sheets. Thank You. Maybe someone else will chime in and advise how to remove clear.

Run your fingernail over it firmly but not to scratch it, a coated light will feel sort of squeaky and sort of drag - one without lacquer won’t feel like that - I have 2 in front of me, 1 coated, 1 not.
Stripping it is a fairly big job - depending on how ‘handy’ you feel you are. Paint stripper will get it off I’d imagine. If you do it without disassembling the light, make sure it’s done up nice and tight so as to stop stripper getting inside.
If you take it entirely apart you won’t have to worry about that.

It might be a clear coat. This is my Tool, its a couple of months old and ive never done anything special with it (apart from a emitter swap to get rid of the 6500 K XML2)!

Yes then it definitely is coated. Wouldn’t the paint stripper mess up the o rings on the clicker and gaskets?

Maybe, but o rings are as cheap as chips and you should have spares in the box with that light. The tail switch is easy to remove entirely in most lights - 2 minute job and not complicated….usually lol! use a set of circlip pliers or alike, maybe some tweezers and spin that ring out of the tail, it will all just fall out then you are good to go.
When I did the patina on my ol entry (that was) nothing got inside, and there were no o rings at all - just thread. Just make sure it’s good and tight.

Thank you guys. Lumentop responded to an email I sent them and they stated they don’t clear coat them. They just polish them. Guess I have to work harder on the forced patina!

combine with chopped up boiled egg in a baggy overnight
