Here in Spain, things are getting very bad now.
And I am starting to feel ill… hope it is just flu… not coronavirus.
The problem is not me, that I am young. The problem is my mother (80 years old…).
Fingers crossed everyone for everyone!

Confirmation bias. Most people don’t have the knowledge to get their own opinion. How many have studied the virus in a microscope and performed tests themselves? Most of us can’t, so our opinions are formed from other’s opinions, and we choose the opinions that suite us best.
Human relationships and Information are based on trust.
When it fails or there is disinformation it’s difficult to know the truth especially if something happens on the other side of the world, and we don’t have the means to prove
I am from Spain too.
Thinga are bad… But Italy,China, Iran etc… Are even worse
Hope the best for all of us
I’m still wondering why the USA hasn’t announced a Flu Pandemic, since 22,000 US citizens have already died from influenza.
The US CDC released their weekly influenza report and it states: “CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 36 million flu illnesses, 370,000 hospitalizations and 22,000 deaths from flu”.
It can be read here: CDC Weekly Influenza Report
This Chinese Virus has been blown WAY out of proportion to it’s mortality rates.

The same reason why Germany does not announce a Flu Pandemic. I assume the reasons are:
Now, looking at the mortality rates we get to see on the news, the numbers speak for themselves. These are way higher than those for Influenza. I agree that the actual mortality rate will presumably be lower than this as there is no telling about the real number of infected people. It is obvious that a large proportion of the population is already infected without knowing for these people have no or only mild symptoms.
However, these are the latest numbers I got from a German news website (status of March 20, 2020):
The total number of infections in the USA has increased by 50% in the last 24 hours.

KLARUS LIGHTS Partners To Release Klarus FFP2 masks during pandemic
不仅要戴口罩,还要戴对口罩!
It is obvious that a large proportion of the population is already infected without knowing for these people have no or only mild symptoms.
Exactly. As far as I understand it, a lot of people could be infected with this new trendy version of corona, and be sick like it was the common flu. At my girlfriend’s work, many are home with the flu, and they are not going to the hospital because it’s just the flu. But it could be this new trendy version of the corona virus, how can anyone know if they aren’t tested? The flu is common here like anywhere else, and many people here never go and check themselves when they get the flu, they just ride it out unnoticed by any statistics gathering entity, so even the number of how many people get the common flu has to be an estimation. That’s why all these numbers mean nothing to me. That doesn’t mean I’m saying this is just a common flu, I’m just saying that the numbers are not reliable.
A friend of mine here in upstate NY who is a nurse and whose husband works for a nursing home sent me this:
So I think it has been a little more stressful than I have been admitting to anyone. I was the nurse who swabbed the first positive in the county, and have been a little out of sorts. They did not quarantine me, since the Department of Health decided that my risk was extremely low with all the PPE I wore at the time of contact. I have to continue to monitor my temp for another 4-5 days, but have been feeling entirely fine (other than the stress factor).
[My husband’s] facility is, in his words: “a joke”. I feel like every healthcare facility tries to come up with all these plans as to how to handle this, but it is a lot of talk. No one actually knows how to put these things in place. Administration, is exactly that. People sitting in offices making up all these rules and regulations, with very little to no understanding how the “real world” operates. At least in my building the nurses were a part of the discussion and I feel that they truly listened to us and things are going fairly well. I hope for [my husband]’s sake that this does not enter their building. He has over a 150 residents and every single one at high risk. I can only pray for him and all in that building.
[Our children] are doing fairly well. [Daughter] is my structured child and is not really enjoying all this free time. Her teacher did not send any type of homework/school work home to be done. I have found a multitude of resources on line and she has been going through those like crazy. Luckily she is also a reader and has too many books to count.
I am heading out to work, yet again, but we should catch up some time.
I also signed up for school again to get my RN.
Stay safe.
The Governor of California estimates that 56% of Californians will be infected by COVID-19 in the next eight weeks.
By the way, I don't know where he's getting his numbers from and I do not know how accurate the estimate will be.

If that is true than the IC’s in the hospitals will be overrun with 20 (or so) times their capacity, and because people can not be taken care for properly the viris may show a death rate a couple of times more what has been seen sofar in other countries in the world, including Italy. ![]()
Is there any way this can be slowed down in California, they do know what social distancing is in the meantime?
I heard that the U.S. will most likely follow Italy's lead when it comes to how bad we get hit.
Also, most people that get COVID-19 do not need to go to the hospital.
...
In California, we know about social distancing.
I don't know how well we will adhere to that advice, though.
Social distancing: From what I have seen and heard from friends here many people do not truly know what social distancig means. Some people with children stuck at home (schools closed) are having playdates. Others I know are truly distancing, keeping away from other families. It is difficult to socially distance a family of 6 people who are all stuck in the same building though. I guess they are in it as a group.
I made a trip to the grocers this AM. They are having a special seniors hour from 7 to 8 AM. Usually early morning is a great time to shop as there are few people. Yikes! I have seldom seen that many people at even ‘normal’ busy times like pre-Christmas or Easter. It was interesting to note that for some the trip seemed to be a beer/wine/liquor run. I was able to get most of what I wanted which was mainly produce.
I think in USA our plan is to make Italy look good. Or maybe whoever was supposed to make our pandemic plan was watching Netflix all day and hoping we never needed it. I’m in Ohio which seems to be taking this somewhat seriously, thankfully.
We barely have any masks left and the pandemic is just getting started. The CDC is recommending that nurses make their own makeshift masks from bandanas and scarves if nothing else is available.
It’s going to be really bad here. Most people have no idea. A lot of people I know aren’t even taking it seriously.
My family is taking it seriously, but I cannot speak for everyone else.
The one flaw our family has is that we don't social distance from each other, so if one of us gets COVID-19, we all might.
I have 4 kids and one on the way. My wife is considered immune compromised on account of being pregnant. If anybody in our house gets it we all do. Kids have no understanding of germs. We are being as cautious as reasonably possible. Fortunately the limited information about coronavirus and pregnancy doesn’t seem to bad.
If parts of the USA do not take “flatten the curve” seriously (work from home, close cafe’s, restaurants, sports facilities, in general stay home and practice social distancing) they will not only loose many “eldery people with underlying health issues” (this is emphasised so often now when the new numbers of deads are announced that I can’t deny the impression that they are considered a waste product by some), but also many, mainly male, people in their forties and fifties who are for the economy in their most valuable part of their life who would be saved with proper hospital care.
Question is of course: how long is that needed? Can we live through an almost complete lockdown until a vaccine is available in earliest a year from now? But this is a later problem to be solved, first thing is to stop the virus infecting whole populations within 2 months.

Here, the first baby from an infected woman was born yestderday.
The first test to the children was negative, but it will be done a new one within the 72 hours to re-check again.
I hope you stay safe! :+1:

Meanwhile, the numbers keep on rising here too: 1020 diagnosed as positive, 6 deaths, some have recovered, many are under surveillance.
The cities are almost stopped.
Adhara, As someone who lives in California and am proud of it, your post is offensive and presents a very distorted view. Yes it's not perfect but I'd rather live here than many other places.
There's an even more offensive post in another thread by someone else that I took offense to.
What is today, Crap on California Friday?
Americans have been fleeing California for decades, an incredible statement on modern California that is concealed by the mass immigration from outside our country replacing the numbers of the native born lost to the state, and it is what increased California’s population while the Americans were moving out.
With millions of us having deliberately fled California and it still being fresh on our minds why we undertook that difficult uprooting, it is going to be difficult for people not to leak out some of their revulsion at how the state went from the Golden state to what it has become in the last few decades.
People do need to try to not get political on it by trying to not get overly specific on it’s problems, keep it general and try not to tie it to politics.
