Couple of ideas, need help.

I hunt, at night (legally) and I use a light on my gun. I hate pressure switches, they don’t last. Looking for an alternative that will be easy to use. Thought about a magnetic reed switch but they won’t handle the current. I want something that will mount to the gun and not get in the way. Looking for any ideas. I want something small that I can activate while holding the gun in a shooting position.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!!

A dual function pad will help. both momentary and constant on.

Where would one get the dual function pad?

What I learned is Lumintop TD15S and Klarus TR12.

You can also buy some remote controls, but seems they usually fit only for those C8 and 501B.

This is the ugly ones using physical method. A contract switch and a self-lock switch.

I’ve had a few of the “pressure” switch types, they don’t last that long and are not reliable. Trying to come up with something different.

I don’t shoot so I could be talking out of the wrong end of my body

Could you use a electronic switch light (or driver) and extend the switch wiring out of the light and put the switch in a convient place on the rifle, say at where one of your fingers sit on the stock when shooting, quick press with one finger to light the target, gentle pull with the trigger finger and “Arrrrgh missed” :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers David
Edit:- phat phingers

What pommie suggests is a serviceable way to do it if you don’t mind 2 wires on your gun. FWIW I use a P60 usually (and sometimes use a Nitecore SRT-7) on my carbine, I prefer to trigger the light’s tail switch directly with my thumb.

OP you could use your reed switch (or any tiny, low current switch) by using it to trigger a N-FET.

Don’t do any hunting either but you might want to try the IMALENT EMT16 !

Which kind of pressure switches have your tried? I have a surefire pressure switch that has been going strong for a few years. I also have a much cheap one from solarforce and is actully made pretty well. All the ones from DX and FT i’ve tried are crap and don’t last, but if you don’t mind spending the extra cash and it will work with your light the surefire ones are made well, just plan on spending upwords of $100.

Edit

Are you looking for something momentary or constant on?

Momentary, it only needs to be on long enough to take the shot.

Let me guess, coyotes?

Those too, but skunks, racoons, bobcats, Koontz. I do animal depredation, has to be done at night. Golf courses.

Getting a little off topic but what’s your technique for shooting skunks? I’ve had to do it a few times in the last few years (to many time unless I find a better way). Do head shots / fast kills prevent them from spray bombing the area? I shoot them the same I’ve been taught to shoot anything, center mass body shots for a humane kill even if I miss my mark slightly, should I be taking head shots? Two shooters firing at once?

They are tough and mostly fur. I usually go for the head shot. Unless you stone them with the first shot, they usually spray when you hit them. If you can break there neck, they can’t spray. I have shot them and can actually see them spray when they are hit, not fun when you have to pick them up!!

What are you shooting them with?

Isn’t the bobcat the natural born killer of these vermin? My father in law was all proud of killing a 4ft Bull snake, soon after his lawn was taken over by moles? Up till then his lawn was beautiful and mole free? Ironic huh? Don’t get me wrong I love hunting and putting my self up against predators, especially coyotes. We have been telling the DNR for the last 3 yrs, the dogs are packing up, well here in Michigan, the DNR finally admits it. After several recent pack attacks on horses and other livestock. We can’t hunt at night with high powered rifles unless we can show a loss of livestock, damage? It never stopped us. It’s our land and we will protect it and our neighbor’s land as we see fit. Good luck, shoot straight and shoot often!

Depends on who’s barn I’m working at (I do it for a few different families / owners that need pest control but don’t want to / can’t do it themselves). Either 300BLK, .223 or .17HMR. (I only shoot them with the 300 when I’m actually there for ’yotes). What do you use?

It’s not fun shooting them but I’d rather do that any day, just this past summer one of my dogs got 3 of them, he’s gotten very efficient at killing them but at the end of the day I’d rather do it lol.

I shoot with a .25 cal PCP (Pre Charged Pneumatic) air rifle, shoots a 31gr pellet at 920fps and it’s QUITE. I have shot 25 yards from a resident and they didn’t hear a thing. I shoot a Theoben Rapid, it’s been highly modified.
