Craigslist Buy- what do you think?

Looks like a skyray king or clone of some kind…

i think it’s pretty cheap at 25, i would get one if they have it around me

Looks like a steal to me.

I told him I’d come by Monday if he still has it….

  • edit- whats the difference between the two? What should I look for? This guy has posts all over PHX Craigslist for flashlights for way cheap and he says he has tons of different ones. What am I looking for specifically with this one? thx

We think we are getting good deals all the time in our flashlight buying but in reality we are getting ripped. Once knew a man who had a direct connection to China for replica watches(Rolex, Tag, Breitling, Omega, Panerai, etc.), the watches you see all the time on websites for $100 to $150 he was selling for $20 to $30.

That craigslist guy probably has a connection.

@lightning210 Must be the night shift or sumthin  Let me know how you make out, I might want to go look see also! I’ll have a look see what else he’s got on CL. Good catch!

Probably stolen too?

Besides what leftye said, I’d bring some batteries in case “he doesnt have any right now that are charged”, also bring and compare with a known light, brush up on what the different LED emitters look like, and maybe find the “known good” SRK driver pictures and get those in your memory as well. Otherwise, they are all copies anyways, so if all the above is good and you want another, why not? Its not like its likely to be possible someone would have “used too much of its life up”.

Also: its very probable he does have a connection or they are stolen. I had a couple stolen myself once, I’m still watching Craigslist to see if they appear…

6000 lumens? Phoenix lumens are brighter than chinese lumens

Its hotter in Phoenix, so of course photons are “brighter” there…or something…yeah that must be it…

Swingshift- 1400—2200

Thx for all the tips, guys! I’ll go have a look with a pocketful of batteries and a magnet…. Maybe if I act like an expert, I can talk him down to $20, haha…

I called him today and asked him a little about them. He did say he had a few of these and that he had batteries  I also asked him about what the label on the gold one said and he said Sky Ray King. I was gonna quiz him more but that was enough for now. I don’t want to step on your toes because you saw this first lightning210 but don’t buy all the lights he has! hehe I’ll prolly go have a look see tomorrow.

Looking at a couple of his other ads, looks like he might be getting these from some sort of auction. He had what looked like the whole living room full of lights.

One thing that concerned me a little was the fact that the seller didn’t specify that the light used 18650’s.
He’s comparing it to average lights which “are about 50 to 150 lumens,” but no “average person” would have 18650’s.

I wouldn’t call it dishonest or misleading, but it does feel like he may be hiding something. Just keep your eyes wide open!

I would say that some of the lights are overpriced, such as the C8, but he does have a nice collection.

I hope he sells the li-ion battery to those who know the safety regulations for them.

He says they are “new” too in that other link, and the area in his house set up like a little showroom with plastic bins and anti-slip/scratch lining…it does seem fishy…connection in China or stole some guy’s flashlight collection? If he inherited them from a flashololic, he couldnt say they are new. And they cant be his or he’d know more about them.

If anyone should ever want to search ALL of Craigslist, not just their local area, go to www.Adhuntr.com That is with no”e”.
Just my 2 cents….

something is kinda odd… he wants to sell SRK for $25 but a C8 for $35? whoaa… :open_mouth:

Yeah thats what I’m saying…from pricing and from comments he doesnt seem to know much about flashlights and pricing. Which excludes a flashoholic, and both the display setup and claiming the flashlights are new seem to exclude inheriting a flashoholic’s stash. So this leaves someone with a source in China…or an…“alternately acquired” goods seller…

What this guy is doing is cashing in on the “wow” factor of high-performance LEDs as a few of us have done here and there. Think about how many people have NO IDEA about what lights are capable of at all.

The inflated “6,000 lumens” is just his going Chinese a bit further to claim something that sounds more outrageous (assuming he is not part of an actual Chinese outlet over here trying to sell). But no big mystery here. And if someone will part with their money for what wows them, no wrong is done anyway.

But bring your own batteries and test the light. A real SR King is nearly 2,200 lumens, a clone at around 1,600. Tell him that and let him know you know your stuff. You might just talk him down a bit more.

That is odd. It looks like a flashaholic collection. Not much more than one of each type of light. A lot of variety. Maybe someone passed away. If someone has been ripped off, I hope they see this thread.
