Hi to all, my partner gave me a green laser of 500mW to 3W that he found in a backyard sell.
It gets me kite excited when I found out all the great things you can do with it. Im here because I get this crazy idea about making some productS based on this types of lights. Does anyone knows something about "Piñatas"?
Well, in a latin tradition, when you are celebrating your birthday, your family give you this figure made of paper and drawn up as different characters with candies in the inside, so you have to break it with a stick to release the candy. Most of this parties are celebrated in the noon, so I was thinking that maybe the show can get a little bit more interesting if I can make a set of lights on the -piñata-.
We probably saved you a lifetime of liability issues. Lasers are a blast but they will also blind you, even a fast reflection from the beam will create a lesion or scotoma on the retina of the eye. YOU DO NOT GET A SECOND CHANCE WITH LASERS! THE VISION DOES NOT COME BACK, PERIOD.
Please be very careful with that laser and let it only be handled by an adult with experience with lasers.
OMG!!! well in my defence, firstly I ask the opinion of experts before trying. Even I get scared!!! Thanks to all for not being rude, in this stupid idea.
Glad this got brought up actually lasers are definitely dangerous. Fun but I’ll stick to flashlights. If I get flash blinded my eyes can read just. The scary thing about lasers you can go blind and never know the beam was reflecting in your eye. I don’t want a toy I have to were specialized goggles to use to play around.
I’d be beyond pissed if I went to a birthday party and came back blind or with a 80 year old mans vision.
I’ve noticed that Walmart and other big box stores almost never sell laser pointers anymore. They use to always be by the checkout counters with the different tips. Never see them anymore. I know there weak but I think its for the best.
And also shame on the seller honestly. Even at a yard sale I wouldn’t sell someone a laser if they couldn’t verbally tell me the safety precautions needed to use it. I’d feel somewhat responsible if they blinded themselves or there kids or pets unintentionally.
I remember some of the lasers I got to see in the Marine Core. You think these lasers are strong. We have aircraft equipped with laser weapons. That can take out missiles burn a hole through them at 200 miles out. Its amazing to see it in action. Part of that has been declassified now so I can mention that part. I’d like to say more but I can’t so I’ll leave it st that. When you get a high security clearance you sign a contract that for 50 years you can’t talk about what you saw. Pretty much so everyone involved is dead including you. But here’s food for thought and I’ll let people read between the lines here. If we have lasers over 10 years ago that can burn a hole in a missle going 3-4x the speed of sound from 200 miles out. Imagine what it does to ground troops and equipment. “But of course America would never break the Geneva conventions”
I was a little concerned how you would take all the posts. Your response was very mature and appropriate. Please forgive me for not saying welcome to the forum sean lawson. Hope you have a great time here and at your birthday party.
I see them lasers often in the China shops I browse but do not dare buy one for the reasons in this thread.
Just put those AA zoomie flashlights in a piñata, dirt cheap and kids love m
It is the best weapon against the bad guy who will break into my home,as we have many incidents in my neighborhood .So I have two of them under my pillow, one 1W and one 1.6W.,as I can’t carry a weapon.
As you know, “It’s better to be judged by twelve than to be carried by six”.
A Piñata emitting or reflecting laser light, not good.
A Piñata with a bunch of cheap LED emitters outside and/or some really bright ones inside would be awesome!
I will just say this, I tend to be “that guy” that has everything tricked out to 10X more then needed, just because I can.
I have long considered getting a powerful laser but to date the strongest one I have is 100mw and I hardly even get it out. Anytime I do people always want to try it and they never respect it like they should. Too much risk in letting them use it and even I don’t like messing around with strangers around.
That said a 100mw laser is fun and looks like a light saber but anything higher powered doesn’t do much more but the risks go up exponentially.
I have a blue laser at 1.6W,and sometimes,I want to buy one at 7W,which is now possible, because of the new diodes.I could have done this,if I was sure, that the light of the 7W beam,is much stronger than the light of the 1.6W.
Are there some photos showing the difference in light strength of several laser beams?
