Cree announces commercial availability of XLamp XP-E2 color LEDs

For anyone that's interested.

datasheet

The red seems to have the same luminous flux and the XP-E1, but a 2.2 typical vf for the XP-E2 compared to 2.3 typical vf for the XP-E1?

Very good news, thanks

hikelite: you’re probalby reading 700mA, typ@350mA for xp-e is 2.1V - so it’s actually a 0.1V increase for xp-e2 red, RO and amber!

green have 0.1 reduced forward voltage @350mA… RO, RB, blue, green gain a new maximum bin

measurements for red, RO amber now shown for 1000mA, in line with the multi-color XM-L, so the new maximum drive performance might be interesting. high powered amber is definitely new to me

Question is, how long before we can buy them. I'd like to try the green R3.

many questions really
how have the red, RO and amber supposed to have gained efficiency, with higher forward voltage to at least 700mA? even with the highest bin, it has possibly dropped…
blue and green seem the only two to not suffer from increased temp droop, overall will the others perform well at maximum drive or not…?

so even after they are out will probably take a while to understand

good summary here

looking at the junction temp vs luminous flux chart on the red xpe and the red xpe2. my inerpretation is that the xpe2 has a less desirable curve. the xpe2 loses more light output with increase in junction temp than the xpe. the xpe and the xpe2 also are rated at the same 73.9 lm/350 mA.
so, no increase in light output and can’t take the heat as well! not good.

what am i missing? why would cree come out with an inferior product to its predecessor?

i take back what i said above. after reading the other article seems i was wrong. looks like substantial gains in ability to handle extra drive current. that should be good for flashlights!

Are these the same?

It seems like they have stock… $2.73 for qty 1?

i have always wondered about the gap between community tests and mfg ratings. the xp-e red is commonly pushed to 1A and above, is it possible that cree have simply had time to finish their longevity tests and with a bit of tweaking to the manufacturing process are now ready to rate their product at that range with sufficient confidence? apparently this is what happened with the RB xp-e and xt-e where they updated the datasheets a few months into release.

from the curve shape on datasheet graphs there isn’t any indication of better output for red at 700mA, so unless it turns out to survive 2A…

oha: that item is the xp-e2 white, which has been released a while ago

as soon as i get my hands on one, i’ll push it up to 1.75 and see what happens!!!
