Found this at WalMart. Ozark Trail brand. Rated at 100 lumens. Three AAA cells. I will have more pictures and information when I get home.

Hmm, I haven't seen any Ozark Trail branded lights at my Walmarts, must be pretty new.
Also, I thought the XT-E's were pretty crappy in flashlights?

I see your XT-E and raise you an XM-L. :P
I just saw a 500 lumen XM-L light at Lowes. It runs off of 3 CR123As. All for the low price of 59.95! :P

Yeah, that XM-L has been around for awhile.
How much is that 3AAA XT-E at Walmart? What's runtime rated at? I guess it's single mode?
-Garry
$10.88
Over nine hours runtime. One mode ![]()
Upon Further inspection, the LED is not XT-E but in fact an XB-D. It’s really tiny.
More pictures, sorry for the quality.

Found a package of Duraloops while I was there. Last package. All of the other ones were the made in China garbage.

Nichia 219 vs Cree XB-D. Nothing great.

Packaging.
Rated at 100 lumens for 9 hours 30 minutes with 91 meter throw.
Has the XT-E hotspot. Hotspot is blueish, corona is yellow and spill is cool white. Really strange.
Also, you would think it would tailstand with a tailcap like that. It does, but barely. Very unsteady.
The lens is plastic (not surprisingly) but it does come with three Duracell alkaline AAA’s.
I mean, for the money, it’s a nice light for someone that knows nothing about lights.
I have a light that uses the same design, it had the exact same battery carrier but the rest of it was different. It was modded by OL with an XM-L. For some reason I can't seem to find a link.
Nice find! Have you taken it apart yet? Take some pics torn down to see if it might be a descent mod light
Maybe next week. I am going to let a friend use it for three days this week.
Not saying that I haven’t tried. It’s just glued together REALLY well.
It comes apart at the head, it is just hard to unscrew due to a oversized O-ring
Nice find
nice to see newer emitters hitting the shelves
It must be more than that. I have tried, with all of my strength, to remove the head. It is definitely glued on. I will have to find a strap wrench to get this off.
Hmm... You may want to try PMing OL. I know he got mine apart somehow. All without scratching it. :D
Just got back from my local Walmart and found the light in the O.P., but I also saw this one:

200 Lumen 4AA and clearly an XB-D (you can read the "XB-D" label on the emitter through the reflector). @ $18.88 it's a little pricey, but I love the 4AA format. I wonder if it can be modded to an XM-L?
I also noticed this new B&D spotlight which is "Lithium Ion Powered" and appears to me to be an XM-L. $49.88 is also a bit much. Rated 755 Lumens for 1 hour and 7 hours on low.

I like thelooks of the black and decker one, especially the Kcd. :D

Nice find! I’m over the XML craze so I have been trying hard to get my light open without damaging it to put in a Nichia 219.
Did you ever get this light opened up?
I did. I haven’t started modding it yet.
Good find on the 4AA light, Garry. It looks to be a good candidate for XPG2/219 swap.
