Here’s some beamshots comparing the 2 at various distances. There was a lot of particles in the air tonite, and the moon was out as well. Not near as close as I thought it would be. I was going to wait to do this coming Monday nite, but I got a sudden burst of energy after a little nap.
Camera settings were man exposure 2 sec shutter, f/3.5 and ISO 200.
Selfbuilt has the 7G9 listed at 63,000 lux with his new light meter. I figured that might be a little low judging by how it kills the Crelant 7G5 on the wall. I’m guessing it’s around 70,000 lux. But the L3 K40 still beats it easily. But the L3 K40 is very close to 90,000 lux. But nonetheless the Crelant 7G9 has a very deep reflector and is still one heck of a flashlight. Just wished it had mode memory. But other than that the quality is very good.
Great shots as usual,I think you got a whole lot of flashlight for the money. Some members are modding theirs and it's proving to be difficult, but I think driven harder it would be close or surpass the k40.Thanks Brad.
Your welcome. And sorry the pictures didn’t come out more crisper and clearer. But as soon as I turned the 7G9 on, I new that the pictures probably wouldn’t be near what I was hoping for. But oh well. Still a fair head to head comparison between the 2 lights.
And yes I am loving this Crelant. It’s a very nice XM-L thrower with a nice bright beam .
I would say quality wise that the K40 probably would have the edge. But the 7G9 is built very well. I was surprised that my Xtar 18700 2600mah batteries went in the battery tube slots since I have read some had some issues with certain batteries not wanting to fit in the battery tube due to the slots not being big enough.
And thanks for the nice 7G9. I just took a black permanent marker and touched up the tiny marks from the lanyard ring. Looks like a new one now. But the light was just as you stated. I am very happy with it.
My 7G9 is doing about 125 kcd or so now -- mods: XM-L2 U2/SinkPAD, 4.2A Nanjg. Really needs another round of mods: 4.9A, de-domed XM-L2 U2 or de-domed XP-G2. I'll only be happy with it when it reaches 300 kcd.
True! It's a freak'n tank of a host. I was thinking it under-performs compared to a TN31, but that TN31 reflector is huge compared to the 7G9, plus even stock, the TN31 is driven at almost 4 amps, so it's not a fair comparison. Actually I could stack a 7135 on every existing 7135 and get 5.6A that way without double stacking. I mounted a P60 pill in the 7G9 to mount the driver on, so got space to piggyback the top 7135's. I think at 5.6A de-domed XM-L2 U2 would do pretty awesome in a 7G9... Hhhmmm - if only I had time....
