I'm looking for a light for a friend. He wants a high-powered long-range thrower with a tight spot. He currently has a C8 and would like something that is even better performing than that. We would prefer to use the 1x or 2x 18650 format as he already has cells and charger for this configuration. Looking to keep it budget with a top-end of ~$50. I have V2 and know it's a very bright/throwy light but would like to know if any of these newer lights have exceeded this light's performance.

All great choices!! I think the STL-V2 wins…
Voted for STL-V2 but I think FandyFire STL-V6 (about $35 @fasttech after coupon) wins.
I suppose someone has to ask, if they want a tight spot thrower, is an XM-L actually the best choice?
A well driven XR-E/XP-E would likely offer a tighter spot and throw further. Even more so if combined with an aspheric lens.
I voted same - also, the STL-V2 and STL-V6 are identical, there’s someone here who owned both and said apart from the branding they had no difference between them.
Yes, I know. Many Sky Rays and FandyFires are 99.999% same (only difference being branding).

Oh, I probably misunderstood your comment then. Sorry!

No problem. What I meant with my first comment is: FandyFire STL-V6 is same but cheaper than Sky Ray STL-V2 so it wins.
Stanley XML spotlight, it does something like 100 Kcd and can be bought for 50 dollars in a actual store.
and includes batteries and charger
