Cute-4 SS vs GT4 on XPL-Hi

Just thought I’d share this as it was hard to find the right optic for my 4 x XPL-Hi helmet light.

Got a GT4 initially which was OK but just received a Cute-4 (for XR-E) and it’s massively better.
Photo’s are only my phone so not 100% true but the difference is about right. Much tighter and brighter with the Cute-4.

The ceiling is about 4m away, 4 x XPL-Hi @ 2a. Each ceiling panel is 4’ long.

Thanks for the comparison. It’s hard to see the differences in the photos probably because of auto exposure settings?

From looking at the optics it looks like the cute-4 uses more of the frontal area available for reflectors, so that probably leads to the tighter and more intense beam. Do you run 2A (0.5A to each LED?) when you use the light riding?

The cute-4 is almost twice as deep overall as the gt-4 and even the gt-4 xpS is really just a flood only beam without a real spot. Useful if you only have 9 mm depth to work with though. I use one as a bar light but prefer tighter single emitter optics for my helmet light.

I assume the Cute-4 SS is like the Cute-3 SS and has a dimpled surface similar to a golf ball? I’ve read that you can improve the beam further by sanding/polishing away those dimples… something I’ve been meaning to try with one of my lights which has Cute-3.

EasyB, I run 2a to each emitter. Hoping I can go up to 3a with a bigger battery.

Rufus, I think the depth of the optic does make a big difference. I’ve got a double XHP70 on the bars

K, the finish is the same as a Cute-3. I tried the ‘polish the face’ but it didn’t make much difference with XML’s.

After looking at your Facebook page which is orsm in itself, what’s your helmet light look like?

Thanks
Helmet light is nothing special, just a modified Magicshine body I had lying around.

:+1:

 bike lights brought me to LEDs.
