My 8103 is very hard to open. And most every owners at the time said the same - even some stores warned about it on their listing.
Maybe it has changed, maybe not. I don’t know. I don’t recommend it.

Messerundco removed that warning so i think it’s fixed.

Disassemble, clean, polish washers, reassemble, smooth as glass.
Or go and buy a knife an ball bearings (I like the washers though)

Esp. the front scale had burrs on both the inside and the outside.

If it wouldn’t have the perfect size for me I’d prefer the 910+ series.
The steel dulls much quickler than the Sandvik and it needs some work to make it smooth but I like it nonetheless.
Maybe a perfect knife out of box is not for me.

Ooh that’s pretty bad, i wonder if someone else made them, like that one black g10 liner tanto and regular (i don’t know the number) they have, ganzo has, and a million other “brands” have. that one was exceptionally bad quality as well.

If there were burrs on the scales touching the washers that was definitely the issue, it won’t slide where it touches those parts and it won’t be aligned on the blade.

Here is arrangement of SRM Land 8103 [image] [image] On each side of blade there is a bronze washer (drilled with holes) and a plastic (nylon/teflon?) washer. I think this is a design mistake and cause of the stiff action. When the pivot screw is tightened the holes in the bronze washer ‘bite’ into the softer washer. Causes some extra friction. and did you try backing the pivot off until you got minor bladeplay?

As stated already, issue was not merely caused by pivot tightness. Of course I backed off the pivot, this was one of first areas of investigation. It was also 100% not related to polishing washers or washers vs bearings. The issue was initial opening difficulty. The knife felt like it was glued shut … once the detent finally gave way (after big effort and sore thumb!) the action was reasonably smooth.

Trust me, everything obvious you can think was already covered 1+ year ago. For me it is an old issue and not particularly interesting any more so I don’t intend to repeat myself. You have fair warning, feel free to buy it and see if it is fixed.

I just can’t read 99% of it or figure out if their website has a’ translator’ where I can change it to English to see if they ship to the USA.

Go the 910 it’s on sale there.

Personally I’d go the Ganzo latest D2 models.
Better steel.
Thoigh I don’t like the straight sided knife handles to work with.
Loose grip. Wet or greasy.
TOO easy for hand to slide down onto cutting edge in my eyes.
I never but any knife without a guard or tang built in to handle…

Well, if he’s a knifemaker or modder or knife sharpener than I wouldn’t mind that, working with sharp objects usually brings to light some juice of life.

But I agree, the dragon is somewhat cheesy even though I wouldn’t mind if this knife was available in a bigger version.
(Well there is, the Ruike P801 which is a flipper and costs too much for what we’re used to pay for a Sanrenmu made knife.)

I’d like to see the scale before SRM’s hand sanding (the lines where not straight), just stamped in the dragon might look better.

I didn’t really like the dragon so I used the scrap wheel cover from a wheelchair on job and made a new front scale.

I should really invest more time into better pictures…

I am not really a knife guy, but after reading this thread I bought two models. The 7010 and the 1161. I can not wait to try them out, though mainly I will cut cardboard with them so I will be sure to sharpen them often.

The silver one with the nail file is a model I never had though.
