Anyone install a dash cam lately? If so which one did you choose and why.
Too many bogus insurance claims out there. All someone has to fall down in front of your car and they can claim you hit them.
I like the Garmin’s because they include collision avoidance, lane departure, and traffic moving from a red light alerts.
This is our family’s dash cam.
We got it in 2022.
There might be better ones available now.
In 2022, this dash cam was the best bang for your buck, which is what we were looking for.

Viofo here too. They give excellent performance for the money. I’m running the single channel A119V3 in my cars.
I am also a fan of Viofo. I got the A229 plus dual channel.
Excellent camera, I have it hardwired.
My friend has the A129 dual channel on his car 27/7 for a few years now without any problems.
Another here for Viofo. Was using a Rexing something or another way back when, but Viofo’s been good so far. Depending on your location, it’s probably better to grab something with a capacitor instead of an internal battery, since the capacitor ones tend to do better in hot weather. Either way, if you can avoid leaving it in direct sunlight, it’ll do better in the long run, but that’s not always avoidable.
Also, make sure to check that your cards are recording, as they can and will get corrupted after some time. I like to check monthly and have spares on hand, just in case. Got a nice collection of videos I’ve saved over the years of just random stuff that’s happened, and two videos had helped in insurance claims.
Do these need power as in a cigarette lighter plug? I read about this one and it has a super capacitor. Not seeing the need of a permanent power source.
Nextbase 522GW and the plug in rear view camera. I had two accidents where someone reversed into the side of my car, totalling a door and denting pillars and other parts. On both occasions I claimed on the other person’s insurance thanks to camera footage.
It’s no good at recording oncoming number plates at night, but it will record what happened, which is usually what counts. It is a very good camera.
You’re better off hard wiring them into your fuse box. You can use things called fuse taps that allow you to hook into an existing fuse position. So no permanent wiring work is required.
The wife’s car is parked in our driveway outside 24/7. The dash cam is fully exposed to the sun all year here in Australia. It’s survived the Summer sun no problems, with temps over 40 C. The old Viofo camera did have the button cell rechargeable battery (for date/ time) die , I replaced that. The A119V3 has been in there for a couple of years with no problems.
We’ve got five A119V3’s in total. In two cars I’m using them as independent front and rear dash cams. The microphone volume was low in them so I contacted Viofo early on, they sent out custom firmware with increased volume to me. That’s good customer service.

they are older models,
so i guess there are newer
options, but they are still
doing exactly what we got
them for.
