DC Fix Diffusion Film - Matter Which Side of Lens?

When using DC Fix to diffuse a light, does it matter which side of the lens the film is on? I realize that it may last longer when placed on the inside, but does the diffusing effect differ between the two? I'm expecting it won't make a difference.

My priority is maintaining water resistance so diffuser always goes on the side of the window the ‘O’ ring does not touch. (Inside)

I should add that I've been testing the MagicShine Wide Angle lens and it specifically says to place it a certain direction (ridges inside).

No difference I’ve tried both. Putting it on the outside lets you take it off quickly though.

for my MTB’ing, outside may offer some protection from pebbles being thrown up by others in front.
