De-doming How is it done properly

I saw a post a while back where someone dedomed an XHP35 and got over 900 m throw in the HT35 flashlight. He said he used a chemical process to do it and the XHP 35 takes a different process than other simple dedoming. Can someone please post the process for dedoming the XHP35. I’ve purchased the HT35 zoomie and want to dedome it properly. I’ve never done this before and do t want to mess it up. Any assistance is greatly appreciated…

It was me, and i used this

Nothing special, just normal nitro paint thinner.

Also this reply in the HT35 thread might help you.

So do you just apply this solvent with a small paint brush and slice off with an xacto razor knife? Sorry for my ignorance, I just want to know exact steps so I dont ruin the led…

Soak it. Pour some solvent into a glass/jar (covered), let it soak a while, the dome should practically fall off on its own, or you can help it along gently.

Exactly what Lightbringer said, the only difference i did was that i used bigger bowl with boiling water and let the smaller jar with the solvent and the led float in there. Job was done in abot 15 min but i intentionaly let the led sit in there a litle bit longer.

So, de-solder the wires, soak led in Nitro solvent 15 min, gently remove dome? Sounds like a piece of cake. Thanks a lot gentlemen! :+1:

I would let the solvent do the job without messing with the dome. The nitro is strong solvent and will desolve the dome without problem.

Like a poisonous cake with murder icing, yeah.

Don’t get complacent, though, if you’ve never done it before. The stuff’s noxious, and can go foomf! if heated on/near an open flame.

I dont take the solvent nowhere near flames or heat greater than boiling water. It is very flamable so please handle it with care.

Ythanks for the heads up. I’ll use with care. I used to bunk in a compartment with 16 nuclear missiles with up to 12 warheads each. Enough firepower to melt the planet a few times over, so I’m pretty good around dangerous materials……
