Ya i have a direct drive setup, it specifically states that’s it’s not recommended to run a sliced (dedomed) led more then 8 amps, this is off of mtn electronic
Unless you’re doing the dedomed under surgical [sterile] conditions with surgically clean tools you’ll introduce contaminates no matter how careful you are…
Contaminates on the remaining silicone = burning of the silicone = failed LED and the SST’s arnt good candidates for chemical dedomed.
I’m running my mechanically dedomed (not sliced) sst-40 @ 6.5A without issue, don’t feel like pushing it harder though as I like the light and I soldered the MCPCB to the pill…
I have read how contamates burn into the led i don’t think I’ve soldered one in yet that i didn’t get at least a little something on the dome, my setup might be running close to 8 or i suspect it to anyways
I’ve done that, not really good for the LED though since it overheat greatly…
I always saw it mentioned as “hot dedoming” so I was wondering if there was a method that I didn’t know.
Maybe I’ll try to use it on SST20 instead of slicing
I ordered the sst40 just in case i wanted to take out the v6 in my m2, even tho i am hesitant cuz the throwy diffused beam in the m2 with v6 is awesome, i think I’m going to try the gasoline dedome method and see what kind of stuff i can mess up
First I sliced it as thinly as I could then I basically hot dedomed the remaining silicone. Left a tiny bit around the bond wires for support.
Messed up and pulled some silicone off the smallest section of corner and have just a slight bit of blue light when you’re fully zoomed in but it does 190kcd and zoomed out you don’t notice any extra blue.
