Is this any good?
Can it be modded?
what does it cost, did you buy it yet, and have you tried taking it apart?
EDIT — and use the search tool: New Defiant lights at Home Depot (Pics added)
The one in your picture looks like one that was sold about 2 years ago. If it is, it has a better finish than the newer ones and a traditional pill that is easy to work on.
Found this thread…
Looks ok. Not the famous Defiant Super Thrower.
I’ll keep an eye out if it goes down in price.
Would be great to cut the tube and make a 1X32650 light out of it.
Thanks for the help.
Interesting. I have various other Defiants in 3C and 3D formats, but not this model. I live not far from Toronto and never seen them yet in the HomeDepot’s around here.
Either it’s old stock that the store found somewhere, or they’re doing a second production run.
this is your light I believe. The tear down.
The old one was 1000 015 067 all the same except the claimed throw on this new one is 1500, the old one 1377.
These were absolutely amazing for the price. They are XM-L2 1A equipped (probably T6 or U2) on 20mm mcpcb, well made and built like tanks. The switch is in the front of the light (like the DST) and the same build quality as the DST. I used one of Rics AR double coated lens without issue. The build quality of these older large Defiants is superior to any recent Defiant iteration (which IMO, the newer ones arent worth the plastic wrapper that contain them).
This one might make for a decent XHP or MT-G2 2 x 32650 build (the cells fit with a longer spring). The solid pill is a large chunk of deeply threaded aluminum with single mode 20mm driver. The shelf is about 2mm thick. Sufficient for mid amps, but could easily accept a press fit copper slug to further assist in thermal transfer. Buy em while you can. Even stock, they are quite impressive for an alky light. I run mine stock with AR lens and 3 x D nimh cells.
In stock form, they are fairly well driven, very nice for the money, safe to lend to others while impressing them, long run times (on D nimh) and wont burn your hands if left on all night.
Markham store at Hwy 7 and Woodbine.
They had about 50 of them on the shelf last Saturday.
Price checked at 19.97 just like the tag.
They are located near where you get custom length rope and chain.
The FL1 standard shows 420M throw and the writing next to it says 457,2.
Probably just a mistake converting to Canadian packaging?
420M = 1377ft
