I am looking to use some LED lighting in a few small rooms, looking for 1000-2000 lumens, a CRI of at least 75 (80+ preferred), and it would run from 120V A/C.
It would be installed in walls and/or ceilings, and it doesn’t need to fit any particular fixture or socket, it will be built from the ground up, and i can design and make my own shades or holders as needed as this is for a custom project
Should i use Cree chips, or something else?
What kind of drivers would be available for these?
I would want 70 lumens/watt or better all told (driver inefficiencies, transformer losses etc.)

Take a look at Bridgelux arrays, they’re said to be very good for the money.
I have really good experience with bridgelux emitters, they might not be most efficient but the light they provide is simply without competition in their price range, even 80CRI parts are very decent but if you are demanding go for 90CRI variant.
Their latest SM4 emitter is really superb and easy to use as it shares same footprint as Cree XM-L so no problem in finding stars/optics… This emmiter is especially suitable for direct lighting as it provides almost glare free light so you can even look directly into working emitter without seeing nasty spots few seconds later. If you need pure floodlight you even don’t have to use optics as radiation pattern is very smooth and ends at 30% of relative intensity.
