I’ve been following the situation in Detroit with the bankruptcy and all and it’s getting worse still. If you haven’t seen it, take this example of just how bad things are. Bald tires, no AC in the squad cars, having to use their own cell phones to call in plates when making traffic stops…honestly, it feels like a ridiculous parody skit, but it’s all too real…
Hats off to these men. It would take some mighty strong character to do what they’ve been doing for years. And this woman and her family are doing the smart thing and leaving…
I have to respectfully disagree. 50% of the country like and want the policies that led to this point in time and the other 50% didn’t yell loud enough to stop it.
We should all be better informed and attentive. We’ve all dropped the ball to one degree or another. Here is a blatant example from my own family. While on vacation in TN right before the ’08 elections, politics were being discussed, and my sister-in-law boldly exclaimed, “I prefer a big ’ol cup of ignorance in the morning”. Then my mother-in-law, chimes in with “Me too.”
It is this attitude, even more than the so called entitlement mentality, that has caused, and will continue to cause, the decline of this empire.
Like I stated before, we create our own conditions.
Just because someone didnt protest doesnt mean they created the issue or even helped let it slide. Everyone is human and WRONG, half will be right half will be wrong. Majority will win either way and doesnt matter. UNLESS the government goes above our head and effs us all anyway.
Gay marriage in california, I didnt let it happen or make it happen. The supreme court ruled it to be so regarless of popular vote. How is it my fault or anything else for that matter? Because I didnt vote? Not my fault, its not called ignorance it’s called “democracy”……
No, if this was a democracy, then the Gay Marriage Ban (Prop 8, if memory serves) would have stood. It was voted for by the majority.
The United States, however, is not a democracy. We live in a Constitutionally Limited Republic. Our form of Government has similarities to a Democracy, but thankfully, it also has differences.
I saw many of these “Detroit” videos (I think I saw that first video) in YT. I followed them after I’ve read a news magazine article about the city’s decline. Foreigners who have an ideal view of the “American Dream” may find this situation unbelievable.
