Did I get the 5000k I ordered?

My new convoy s6 got delivered, can anyone confirm the color tone is correct? It appears more blue than 5000k. For reference my convoy s2+ with sst40 in 5000k is on left. S6 sft40 in 5000k on right

Welcome in the world of tint shift. Luminus LEDs are known for changing the tint with rising operating current. The 5000 K SFT-40 turned more to blue with rising current, I experienced the same with similar current. So I would say, this is normal. Since the LED itself seems to be undamaged, I don’t think you got the wrong LED. Also in your comparison the other LED looks very green, but this can be just because of the image.

My S6 with SFT-40 5000K looks identical to yours.

This sft40 definitely seems like 6500k at 100% power. On lower settings its warmer but nothing like my sst40 convoy. Happy with the light regardless

The SST40 5000K is known to be green and with the tint shift it has an egg yolk beam which makes the hotspot more yellow/green than the SFT40.

The spills seem to match up pretty closely, I’m pretty sure you got a 5000K.

It appears the beam on the RHS is very much over exposed and washed out? Can you adjust the exposure so it not over exposed as that is possibly making it look worse. What’s the white balance set to as well?

I have an M21B with the same emitter. It looks the same as yours; warmer at lower levels, then brilliant white at 100%. That’s what they usually look like.

Yeah, maybe Sanan/Luminus is able to source proper phosphor mixtures like Nichia, Cree and other chinese manufacturers which don’t have this annoying tint shift with rising current… the SFT-40 is a great LED, but not with this color changing ‘feature’ :frowning:

I didn’t think either of them would be that bad.

The one on the left looks much warmer than 5000k.

Also, I would not be surprised if Convoy does not use “A” grade leds in their lights. So color temperature may not be exact.

I’d say the sft on the right look much closer to 5000k white, comparable to my 519a 5000k. The sst on the right is on 4000k territory, if not overwhelmed by green…

That’s exactly the tint of SST40 5000K. I had an S2+ with this led and i luckily lost it at the beach somewhere. It seemed too artificially orange. Now, that’s the tint of SFT40 5000K.

Both SFT40 5000K and 519A 5000K are rosy. 519A is the worst! So for me, SST40 6500K all the way! I love this green tint on low levels anyway!
