Quick question, is the sst 50 die size ie reflector opening the same as sst-90 reflector opening or would it need reaming?
Hmmm, yeah, that’s a shame. Will have to find sizes then I know if what I have in mind is doable.
If it is, and I mean doable with minimal tools, I may have found another host for an interesting project a few of us are on with, and if it works, I’m pretty sure t 8) here’s a few who will want to follow suit.
Yep, different sizes. Here the info is from the datasheet. SST-50 then SST-90.
The SST-50 can be used in most reflectors designed for the MC-E or XR-E while the SST-90 needs a different reflector with a much larger opening for the emitter. You can use an SST-50 in a reflector designed for an SST-90, but, not vice-versa. You’ll just have to find the sweet spot for the focus.
The SST-50 has roughly the same footprint of a Cree XR-E or MC-E. As a matter of fact, people were reflowing SST-50s to XR-E MCPCBs when they first came out because SST-50 MCPCBs were not available. The SST-90 has a footprint almost twice that of the SST-50.
Hmmmm, that may be workable, I’m not thinking of using either am sst-50 or sst-90, but the host I’m looking at cam be bought with either am xm-l or sst-50 reflector.

What I’m thinking is another option for mounting up an mt-g2.
The easier we can make this, the more popular the mt-g2 may become, the more available they’ll hopefully become.
Looking at that host, the choice is between an SST-50 or XM-L reflector. Unless you have both an MT-G2 and XM-L in hand to compare relative sizes then the safer bet would be the SST-50 reflector because it probably has a larger opening for the emitter and could make the difference if the MT-G2 will work or not.
If you want relative size, here a pic is. (credit to Troutie)
I was already inclined towards the sst-50 reflector, I’m hoping it’ll just clear or be “adjustable” without flaking the coating. Hopefully it’ll work, I’ll be ordering emitters and a couple of driver’s next week, as I have one host that will take one, I’m hoping this will make an easy host for others that want to play as the mt-g2 falls between the sst-50 and sst-90 in size at 9mm x 9mm if memory serves.
We shall see, I can’t seem to find any sst-90 hosts and I’m not seeing buying an x6 for a host…
You got a 7x version of that big Cutter star in the works?
Aren’t those for arrays? Like 37V? Major lumens if I remember what I’ve been reading. I saw those and wondered about a grille light for the Escape! 8 of those in a nice box and it’d be daylight all the time.
