Differences between XML2-5 tints?

What is the difference between a Cree XPL2-U2 5C and XPL2-T5 5B?

Thanks a lot! :+1:

Simple ……5C is one of my favorites …
And 5b imho sucks pretty badly .
tints are very subjective and each bin can be anywhere in the BOX so the answer is to try both and keep the one you like .

I see… it is an individual choice. I just received On The Road M3 with 5C and I like 5C-tint a lot. Have also a Convoy S2+ with 5B in the mail on the boat from China. So we shall see!

The 5B’s from Convoy are pretty bad .
the U2 will also be brighter than the T-5

Somehow I don’t think he wanted to hear that. :person_facepalming:

They cannot be that bad as I’m sure they wouldn’t be selling them.

Anyone know where you can buy U2 5C's? Just got the M3 with it, and it's awesome!! Boaz is right once again. To me it doesn't look rosie, but more milky white. From freeme's beamshots, it looks more like a 5D he got. The D's always seem to be rosie - never saw that tint in a true C.

Thanks again… just ordered this one…

Didn’t think any 5 tints were binned as high as U2. 3 tints are more commonly T6 bins. Just looked it up and U2 does go into the 5’s.

I've been a fan of "5X" tints a long time, from T4 5D2's (rare), T5 5A2, T5 5B1, T5 5D3. But it's been impossible to find anything above T5. I think IOS had a T6 "5X" listed a short time ago, but when I asked Hank, he said it was listed in error that way. He's got T5 5D1's listed now, and MtnE has T5 5D1's and T5 5D3's. MtnE also has a T6 5C1, but I think this is the same one Hank had listed, but said it was actually a T5.

U2 for a "5X" tint is simply unknown, it would be a significant evolution for "5X" fans - I'd like to see the proof of this. The output I'm seeing leads me to believe the bin is lower, though I'm not formal testing it.

A U-2 or T-5 doesn’t matter that much to me i’m curious if the xml2 5c is as nice as the xml 5c as far as tint and cri…
My guess is the u2 is wrong .Seems like in the world of led emitters you’re never going to get that lucky .

I agree with quetz... - the OTR M3 5C is really nice, but I can't say I'm an expert at identifying good tints. Boaz - I trust your eyes wayyy better

Just noticed the OP says XPL, but sure he means XM-L2 because XM-L2 is what the M3 comes with.
