First idea was to do head led flashlight with DIY led driver with high frequency transformer with ~95% efficiency with ~9 modes without any pulses. But it is impossible for me. Led driver must be created by my helper (lampman’s helper or ламповщичий), but sinсe 09.2019 I still have no any led driver from 3v to 35.5v from him. But I have my prototype. And I made a decision to do my own version. All what I need to do with my prototype — it is added brightness adjustment and add some plastic or plastic with rubber ring to protect cob from aluminium reflector.
It will be a lot of photos with some my comments here.
Donor. lampman’s find 2 good donors, but I asked start from where more space inside, and I think that head flashlight much more interesting, that ordinary.
YUPARD L2
another was Convoy S2+ and 6W SunLike COB can be there:
I think, that 12W COB will be better, because there is 3 times more crystals (18 and 6 pcs) and it is about 116.5% efficiency per power, and can be about 130% flux with the same flashlights body temperature.
Hot spot.
The radiation area is very small in ordinary leds
and because of these with reflector can be very bright point in the middle of the light spot, but in the head flashlights it is often not necessary and even interferes.
When I done ready prototype, I find that it is really nice light spot there

Because of big COB area, I had to upgrade hole of reflector. It is aluminium with some kind of mirror coating.
LED driver.
First high frequency (DIY) LED driver project of lampman’s:
Ideas about mode switch (there is 5 lines with resistors what can be upgraded by anyone by changes resistors) with 174mA max:
SunLike COB works with 36v (SAW — Korean) and with 35v (SOL — China SunLike)
18650 can give 2.8-4.2v only.
But I have some gu5.3 led drivers to 300mA 12-24v(in) from Qihan.
It works with 3v too, but can not give 300mA, because of hot. I mean with high voltage it is more efficiently. From 4v it can give 35.5v (12W COB SAW) 175mA. It is maximum power with this LED and with this flashlight body. Maximum lithium battery temperature is +60 °C, 18650 battery inside body.
I must cut off diode bridge, because here is low voltage (not 12v) and it is about 0.3-0.5v losses on there. And there is so small space inside.
Finally prototype was done.
Accessories.
I wanted to launch the final model for sale for $ 100 with a large kit and I find a lot of interesting things to the kit.
I found stainless clips with absolutely correct size.
I found correct size white diffuser and red diffuser. Red is really interesting, because there is much red spectrum in SunLike leds.
Also neodymium magnet with hole. I done M3 hole with thread. When it is without magnet, it can be with screw.
Also I buy 10 types of lens and choose 3 best one.
Matt do light spot bore brightness without crystals shadow. Another do more wide angle. Another do oval spot like you have 2 leds. Seems interesting.
Also I try some boxes. And I like this one
I try some additional straps. It was not correct size for YUPARD L2 flashlight. I find one interesting — for diving (yellow and black)
For first version I find good charge and awesome battery. Charger can charge battery and charge from battery. It is FOLOMOV. I find some adapters for it to charge it from micro usb and from smartphone with otg. Battery is lithium high voltage LG 4.35v. If charge it only to 4.2v, it must works years and years.
Also I found cheap 360° bike holder and holder for tripod.
Now I upgraded body to variable resistor:
I am going to cut off 4mm from aluminium knob. I have only 500k resistor, I will waiting for 1k. I think flashlight is almost ready to go to serial production.
BUT!:
Do not inverted polarity!
Remove the battery or some unscrew the plug. (That how I power off prototype)
Use only protected batteries.
It is more cheap than first version should be. Because there was 30-50$ for DIY led driver.
SPECTRUM of SunLike leds:
What is it mean? Correct operation of the pupil system determines the brightness of the turquoise spectrum. More beauty skin color because of red spectrum (R9 index of CRI). And (I found it by myself) Reflective elements of clothes, roads and cars! I thought that the reflective stripes on my son’s briefcase were defective, but everywhere was light of ordinary cheap LEDs without a violet spectrum. After SunLike’s light it is shines!
I think in kit will be bag, magnet with screw, white and red diffuser, 1pcs stainless clips, 3 lens. And price 50$ for all kit.
