Do I need a LED constant current driver ?

Hello,

I bought this:

and I want connect it directly to the battery ( 3 x AA )

will this work ?

or do i need to buy also LED constant current driver ?

Thank you

3x AA should have enough internal resistance to limit the current, depending on the LED. That appears to be some generic LED and we don’t know the electrical and thermal properties.

But usually you must limit the current in some way, sometimes just by a resistor.

That looks like an old XM-L LED. Very outdated, like a decade old.

That said you could hotwire it directly to 3AA batteries but that is a very bad idea.
You get some future low resistance batteries and it could fry it.
It will drain alkaline very quickly plus the voltage will be out of spec.

Frankly a good linear driver is a good idea.

ok. thank you for the explanation.

so I bought this also, so we’ll see how it all works :grinning:
